Scrabble Night @ The Coffee Studio

Andersonville's The Coffee Studio hosts its monthly Scrabble Night tonight between 6:30 and 8:30pm. Boards and dictionaries will be provided -- just show up and you'll be matched with someone of similar skill level. All levels are welcome, from beginner to certified Word Freak. Prizes will be awarded for high scores. The Coffee Studio is located at 5628 N Clark St.

The Encyclopedia Show: Vice Presidents

Young Chicago Authors presents The Encyclopedia Show, at the Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division, tonight at 7pm. Artists, performers and writers share works relating to theme "Vice Presidents," including Aaron Enskat; Naomi Ashley; Ryan Heneberry; Mary Fon; Lindsay Muscato; Jasmine Houston-Burns; Marty McConnell and Andi Strickland; Sarah Becan; Dan "Sully" Sullivan; Greg Pickett; Sarah Winters, Alice Thatcher and Raina Sun; Ashley Hart; Kurt Heinz; Tim Stafford; Joel Chmara; Evan Chung and Jilted Emily Rose. Tickets are $5 at the door. All ages.

Planning in Chicago before the Plan of Chicago

Carl Smith, Franklyn Bliss Snyder Professor of English and American Studies and Professor of History at Northwestern University discusses urban planning before Daniel Burnham's Plan of Chicago. The lecture takes place from 12:15-1pm at the Chicago Architecture Foundation's The John Buck Company Lecture Hall Gallery (224 S. Michigan Ave.). The lecture is free, and afterward Smith will sign copies of his book The Plan of Chicago: Daniel Burnham and the Remaking of the American City.

Green City Market Opens in Lincoln Park

Green City Market moves outside to Lincoln Park (1750 N. Clark), where it will continue Wednesdays and Saturdays (except July 4) from 7am to 1pm.


Crystal Antlers @ Empty Bottle

Progressive/experimental rockers Crystal Antlers play The Empty Bottle tonight. The band whose self released EP became known through word of mouth last year will play supporting their anticipated new album, Tentacles. Vivian Girls and local band Bird Talk opens. The show is $10. History of the Hot Dog Lecture @ Kendall College

Tonight at 7pm the Chicago Foodways Roundtable will be holding a lecture at Kendall College (900 North Branch) about the history of hot dogs (locally and worldwide) that will feature Doug Sohn of Hot Doug's and author and historian Bruce Kraig (Hot Dog: A Global History). Admission is $3 per person, free to Kendall students and faculty with ID. Free parking. RSVP required.
