The previous "Inside Out" audio and visual installation in the future home of the National Public Housing Museum, the former Jane Addams Homes, 1322-24 West Taylor Street, did so well, two more showings are scheduled. Set in the former residential units, interviews with public housing residents will be paired with photographs by Jack Bridges, John Brooks, Patricia Evans, Scott Fortino, Bridget Montgomery, Bob Natkin, Jason Reblando and David Schalliol. Preservation Chicago's spring fundraiser, "The Art of Preservation," takes place from 5:30 to 8:30pm tonight at 1835 S. Halsted Street in the Pilsen art district. The fifth annual Gold Coast Film Fest takes place tonight at the Royal George Theater (1641 N. Halsted). The fest features underground films, including a mockumentary called "The Golden Spoon," shot by restaurateur Kevin Boehm. A pre-event starts at Landmark Grill & Lounge (1633 N. Halsted) at 6pm, with the main show getting underway at 7:30. Tickets cost $35 (includes two well drinks at the pre-party) and can be ordered online.
Mitsuwa Marketplace's gourmet fair continues till Sunday (6/14), with Japanese sweets and snacks that rarely cross the Pacific--unless you have a Japanese relative who sends out care packages. Although the Chicago store will have a smaller selection than the stores on the coasts, it'll have takoyaki (creamy dough balls with octopus and a special sauce), sweet potato & apple pies from a well-known bakery, specialty fish cakes and traditional Japanese sweets, and more.
