Sound Opinions Movie Night: A Hard Day's Night

Chicago Public Radio and Sound Opinions present the latest in their series of rock'n'roll movie screenings at the Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport). Tonight's film is the classic Beatles film A Hard Day's Night. The screening starts at 7pm; tickets are available through the Chicago Public Radio Website.

Chicago Outdoor Film Festival: Cat On A Hot Tin Roof

The 2009 Chicago Outdoor Film Festival continues this evening with a screening of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof with Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor. The film will be shown at Butler Field in Grant Park (at Monroe and Lake Shore Drive). Admission to the film is free. The films begin at sunset, but you'll probably want to arrive earlier to pick out a choice spot. See the Outdoor Film Festival website for a complete schedule of films.

Invent the Future Workshop @ Rogers Park Library

How should the region plan for the year 2040? This summer, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) will hold dozens of free public workshops called GO TO 2040 "Invent the Future". Information you contribute at these meetings will help CMAP develop a preferred scenario that will best reflect the region's desired future. Tonight’s workshop takes place from 6-8pm at the Rogers Park Library, 6907 N. Clark St., Chicago. Visit for more information and to register.

Tuesdays on the Terrace : Fred Anderson @ MCA

If you like jazz, or you just like being outside on a Chicago summer afternoon, then make your way to the Museum of Contemporary Art for "Tuesdays on the Terrace." Have a seat by the band on the terrace, or bring a blanket and some friends to the lawn and take in the sounds of some of the city's most talented jazz musicians. Tonight's artist is the Velvet Lounge's Fred Anderson. 220 East Chicago Ave. 5:30pm-8pm. Free.

The Dead Weather @ The Vic

The Dead Weather, featuring Jack White (The White Stripes); Alison Mosshart (The Kills); Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs); and Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age), play their first of two shows tonight at The Vic (3145 N Sheffield). Show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets available here.

History of French Pastry @ LUMA

Kelli and Dimitri Fayard of Vanille Patisserie will be talking about the history (and present) of French pastry (with samples!) tonight at 6pm at Loyola University Museum of Art (820 N. Michigan). Admission $15-20.
