The 2009 Chicago Outdoor Film Festival continues this evening with a screening of George Cukor's Born Yesterday with Judy Holliday and Broderick Crawford. The film will be shown at Butler Field in Grant Park (at Monroe and Lake Shore Drive). Admission to the film is free. The films begin at sunset, but you'll probably want to arrive earlier to pick out a choice spot. See the Outdoor Film Festival website for a complete schedule of films.
The Harold Washington Library presents a panel on "Chicago Visionaries: From Burnham to Today and Beyond," a discussion of how Chicago can stay vibrant in the 21st century. Panelists include Carl Smith, author of the current One Book, One Chicago selection Plan of Chicago: Daniel Burnham and the Remaking of the American City, Nichole Pinkard of the University of Chicago's Urban Education Institute, architects Sarah Dunn and Martin Felsen, and Angela Hulock of Claretian Associates, developers of green and affordable housing on the Southeast side. How should the region plan for the year 2040? This summer, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) will hold dozens of free public workshops called GO TO 2040 "Invent the Future". Information you contribute at these meetings will help CMAP develop a preferred scenario that will best reflect the region's desired future. Pete Yorn doesn't come to Chicago all that often, but tonight he is here for the second of a two night stand at Park West. Probably best known for music from his first album, musicforthemorningafter, Yorn recently released his fourth studio album, Back and Fourth and has new record with Scarlett Johansson called Break Up coming out in September. If you like jazz, or you just like being outside on a Chicago summer afternoon, then make your way to the Museum of Contemporary Art for "Tuesdays on the Terrace." Have a seat by the band on the terrace, or bring a blanket and some friends to the lawn and take in the sounds of some of the city's most talented jazz musicians.
