Silent Summer Film Festival: The Thief of Baghdad

The Silent Film Society of Chicago's Silent Film Festival continues this evening with a screening of Douglas Fairbanks' swashbuckler from 1924, The Thief of Baghdad. The screening happens tonight at 8pm at the Portage Theater (4050 N. Milwaukee) and will feature live organ accompaniment. Tickets are $12 at the door. For more information call (773)736-4050.

Ghostly 10 Year Anniversary @ Empty Bottle

Labfest! Millennium Park

Science Chicago's last Labfest! will be at Millennium Park (55 N. Michigan Ave.) today from 11am-3pm. Held rain or shine, this event features several hands-on science-related activities and crafts for the entire family. Free.

Pressure Cooker @ Gene Siskel Film Center

Pressure Cooker, a documentary film about the Careers Through Culinary Arts Program, will be screened at the Gene Siskel Film Center tonight at 6:00 pm.

Chicago representatives of Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) Nicola Copeland and Anthony McPhee - along with mentor and instructor Wilma Stephenson, featured in the film, will be present for audience discussion. More information can be found in Drive-Thru.

StreetWise Under The Stars

StreetWise provides jobs for many of the homeless, and tonight the publication celebrates their new venture into continuing education and workforce training programs, starting with a partnership with the LEED (Local Economic and Employment Development) Council. It will honor the first 5 Streetwise vendors to complete the program, and features speakers such as Jon Reinsdorf (coordinator of the program), Kevin Ward (mentored vendors through the program), and Alderman Manny Flores.
