World Kitchen Learning Series: No Money, No Time

The "No Money, No Time" class, part of the city's World Kitchen learning series, will get you cooking quickly with on a budget. Class runs 6-8pm at the Gallery 37 Center for Arts at 66 East Randolph, admission is $30, and registration is required.

Comic Book 101 @ Third Coast Comics

Third Coast Comics hosts Comic Book 101 for those who want to know the difference between a graphic novel and a comic book...but were too afraid to ask. The OTHER Dance Festival @ Hamlin Park Fieldhouse

Since 2002, the Chicago Moving Company has been providing an annual venue for Chicago dance companies to present their work, and for Chicago audiences to sample more than a dozen different artists and groups at The OTHER Dance Festival. This weekend's performers are: Breakbone DanceCo, Cindy Brandle Dance Company, Dance COLEctive, Matthew Hollis, Mordine & Co. Dance Theater, and Janet Schmid.

David Daniell and Douglas McCombs @ The Hideout

David Daniell (of San Agustin) and Douglas McCombs (of Tortoise), two Chicago music stalwarts, are going to be celebrating the release of "Sycamore", their first collaboration together, at the Hideout on September 24th! Intonation Music Workshop Silent Auction @ Darkroom Bar

Intonation Music Workshop is holding a Silent Auction tonight at Darkroom to raise money for their music education programs. They provide instruments and lessons to children, and at the end of the program they perform their own material in a community performance. Items up for bidding include a guitar signed by The Hold Steady, a tour of the set of ABC's Private Practice from star Paul Adelstein, and a script from the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning August: Osage County signed by author Tracy Letts and director Anna Shapiro. Tickets are $10, or $20 with a raffle ticket to win a prize package from Hot Doug's! Tickets can be purchased from Intonation's website or at Brown Paper Tickets. 2210 W. Chicago Ave. 6-9pm.

Mexican Fiesta Farm Dinner @ Heritage Prairie Farm

It's not too late to get back to the farm before the frost sets in! Heritage Prairie Farm continues their monthly family-style farm dinner right there on the agricultural premises, featuring the fruits of their own land. The main table will feature slow-braised beef barbacoa with ancho and cacao, black bean and epazote tamales, chayote and butternut squash hash, chilaquiles, dessert apple empanadas and more. Also included is a tour of the farm and mariachi band. The dinner is BYOB (and drinks will also be available to purchase by the glass), starts at 6pm, and costs $65 per adult. Fun. @ Schubas

Former singer of The Format, Nate Ruess, is coming through town with his new project, Fun., along with ex-Anathallo member Andrew Dost and Steel Train's Jack Antonoff. Be sure to check them out now for their headlining gig at the intimate Schubas - just after this short tour they'll be jumping on tour with Taking Back Sunday as the opening act. Phoenix's Miniature Tigers opens this all-ages show at Schubas. The show costs $10 and starts at 7 pm but is SOLD OUT. Schubas is located at 3159 N Southport Ave.

Battle of the DJs @ Ohm

Dozens of Chicago's hottest DJs compete in the third (and final) round of preliminary battle tonight at Ohm Nightlife (1958 W. North Ave). Winners from this and the previous two prelims will advance to the Final Round and face-off later this month. Hosted by Chicago start-up RemixGalaxy, the Rockstar-sponsored event promises USB drive giveaways and loads of free energy drinks. Showcase starts at 10PM. 21+
