Facets Cinematheque continues its Night School screenings in October with screenings of classic horror films Tonight's film is the 1986 Rutger Hauer film The Hitcher and includes a pre-screening lecture and Q&A session after the film. Your home is already a bar, you may as well make the accompanying grub at the "Bar Food" class, part of the city's World Kitchen learning series. Class runs 11a-2pm at the Gallery 37 Center for Arts at 66 East Randolph, admission is $30, and registration is required.
The Culinary Historians of Chicago will be talking about the construction of American Cuisine today at Lexington College, 310 South Peoria from 10am-noon today. Andrew F. Smith, who teaches food studies at the New School University in Manhattan, will preside over the lecture. Admission is $5, $3 for students and free for CHC members and Lexington faculty and students. This year's WFTDA North Central Regional roller derby champions, the Windy City Rollers take on Portland's Rose City Rollers in their final all-star bout before the national championships. The action gets underway at 7 PM (doors open at 6pm) at UIC Pavilion (525 S. Racine). Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online or at the gate.
