Open Books Grand Opening

Non-profit literacy organization Open Books is celebrating the grand opening of their used bookstore and literacy center. Come browse the store's shelves, take home some reads and learn all about the programs Open Books has to fight illiteracy. Today's schedule of events includes bookmaking and crafts for children; a discussion with Ilene Fine and rescue dogs Brandy and Val; a reading and Q&A with Joe Meno; a WeWrite open mic; a poetry panel with Kristy Bowen, Michael Kadela and Kathleen Rooney; and the Kohl McCormick StoryBus. Modern Vintage Holiday Market @ Beaux Arts Plumbers Hall

The third annual Modern Vintage Holiday Market continues today Sunday November 22nd from 10 am until 5 pm. The faire features vintage and indie fashion, jewelry, art, and house wares. This year, the fun takes pass at the Beaux Arts Plumbers Hall at 1340 W Washington Street (free parking available in the Plumbers Hall parking lot). Admission is $10 ($8 in advance online) and includes a $10 shopping voucher if you spend $50 or more with any vendor. Student admission with an ID is $5 and children under 12 are free. Muppets Double Feature @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a Jim Henson double feature this afternoon. The 1979 movie The Muppet Movie screens at 2pm, and a 90-minute program of commercials and experimental films screens at 4pm.
