Re-Thinking Soup @ Hull House

UIC hosts Re-Thinking Soup, a free weekly lunch where participants eat soup cooked from ingredients found at Hull House's urban gardens and chat about an assortment of topics. Event runs today from noon-1:30pm at Hull House, 800 South Halsted.

eighth blackbird @ The Harris Theater

Grammy award-winning sextet eighth blackbird performs Pierrot Lunaire, Arnold Schoenberg's 1912 piece that sets poetry to music. Tickets are $30, two for one if you buy them through the eighth blackbird website. Show starts at 7:30 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205. E. Randolph.

Carrie Schneider @ MCA

Carrie Schneider is a SAIC alumni who makes big, beautiful photographs. There has been a lot of buzz around town about her work lately, and for good reason. She will talk about her work at 6pm today at the MCA: 220 E. Chicago. Admission is free, but you might want to call ahead (312-397-4010) to reserve a spot.

Quickies!

Started by Mary Hamilton and Lindsay Hunter, Quickies! showcases short prose. Each reader has only five minutes to read a complete work of prose. No poetry. No excerpts. No cheating. Readers last month included Toby Bengelsdorf, Tim Hall, Rory Jobst, Simon A. Smith, Kathryn Regina, and Tim Racine. Quickies! is every second Tuesday at 7:30pm at Innertown Pub (1935 W. Thomas).

YouTube Assembly

The YouTube Assembly brings the viral video to the live performance realm. Sign up to share your favorite YouTube video, projected on a big screen, for audience members to comment on -- just like on the site except out loud and in real time with no anonymity! Hosted by Mairead Case and Bryan Wendorf in connection with Homeroom. Tonight at 8pm at Nightingale, 1084 N. Milwaukee. $7 suggested donation. More details here.
