Chicago Originals Restaurant Week

Chicago Originals Restaurant Week offers discounted prix-fixe meals at a bevy of local and suburban restaurants--this year's deal is $29.10 for a three-course menu. Sweets and Savories, Cafe Matou, Le Titi and Paris and Highland Park's Cafe Central are among the participants. Event runs until January 31.

Slam Champion Eboni Hogan @ Butterfly Social Club

Mental Graffiti presents an open mic and open poetry slam followed by readings by featured poet Eboni Hogan at the Butterfly Social Club (728 W Grand) at 8pm. $5 donation, 21 and up.

DuSable Museum Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr.

The DuSable Museum of African-American History will host a full day of events to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. To celebrate the memory of the late Civil Rights leader, today, guests of the museum will get to enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities that include not only films and documentaries, but also live dance and musical performances by theatre groups from all over Chicago.

The event is from 10am to 6pm; admission prices are as follows: $8 for adults, $5 for children (4 years and up), and $6 for museum members. Contact the museum at (773) 947-0600 for more information.

New American TableReception & Dinner @ C-House

Marcus Samuelsson, chef and owner of C-House, has published a book called New American Table and is celebrating tonight with a beer dinner at his restaurant. The cocktail reception and four-course dinner includes pairings by Goose Island, with a brew master on hand to educate diners about the beer. The reception starts at 6:30pm, followed by dinner at 7:30pm. This event costs $65, or $85 if you'd like an autographed copy of the book, excluding tax and tip. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the restaurant at (312) 523-0923.

Anne Frank: A History for Today

The Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center (9603 Woods Dr.) is aimed at preserving the memories of those lost and affected by the Holocaust and "teaching current generations about the need to fight hatred, indifference and genocide in today's world." This new exhibit features photographs of the Frank family as well as other members of the Secret Annex. Through Feb 28. General admission is $10, free for museum members. Museum hours are Monday - Friday 10am - 5pm and 11am - 4pm on weekends.
