826 Moustache-a-Thon @ Sheffield's
The "opening hair-emonies" of 826 Chicago's Moustache-a-Thon take place tonight at 7pm at Sheffield's (3258 N. Sheffield Ave). Shave clean if you want to be an "organic grower," or strive for the best prosthetic 'stache. Moustache-growers will raise funds throughout the month on 826's website and at weekly check-ins each subsequent Thursday at Sheffield's, with all donations supporting 826's literacy programming (and the glory of your facial hair). Chicago Improv Festival College Improv Tournament
Festival Productions is proud to announce the third annual College Improv Tournament, Chicago Regional on Sat. Jan. 23 from 12-4 p.m. with the finals at 8 p.m., at pH Productions (3310 N. Sheffield).
Goatwhore, DevilDriver, Suffocation and Thy Will Be Done @ HOB
New Orleans Black Metal giant Goatwhore performs at the House of Blues (329 N. Dearborn) tonight, as part of the Bound by the Road tour with DevilDriver, Suffocation and Thy Will Be Done. Doors open at 5pm. The show starts at 5:30pm and is all ages. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 day of show.
Winter Bike to Work Day
The Active Transportation Aliiance is holding its annual Winter Bike to Work Day tomorrow, January 20. The event is in recognition of the anniversary of the coldest day on record in Chicago, a bitter -27 degrees with wind chills as low as -93 degrees in 1985. So grab your bike and head over to 9 W. Hubbard Street for some free Caribou Coffee and a sweet treat before pedaling off to the office.
Soup and Bread @ Hideout
The Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia) holds its Soup and Bread weekly fundraiser tonight for a local food-related charity where local chefs and foodies prepare a selection of soups for your casual slurping from the bar's crock pots. Donations encouraged. Event runs 5:30-8pm.
