Red/White: A Wine Tasting Benefit for Red Door Animal Shelter @ Fine Wine Brokers

Join fellow animal (and wine) lovers for a benefit for the Red Door Shelter tonight at Fine Wine Brokers, 4621 N. Lincoln Avenue. Wine tastings, snacks and raffles are on the bill. Tickets $40; event begins at 7:30pm.

Doowop: The Chicago Scene @ Chicago Public Library

The Chicago Public Library, Blackstone Branch, 4904 S. Lake Park Ave., welcomes Robert Pruter, author of Doowop: The Chicago Scene, tonight at 6:30pm. Pruter will discuss the evolution of Chicago's 1950s doowop music and the legendary groups such as the Spaniels and the Flamingos that helped make Chicago music history. This event is free and is open to the public.

Everything but the Wedding @ Affinia

Free Store Opens @ Gallery 400

The Free Store is a nomadic, temporary free store that irregularly visits a variety of Chicagoland neighborhoods. The Free Store, open during all gallery hours, invites you to be involved: come to the store, bring stuff you want to give away, and take stuff that you want. There is no restriction on what you can take--you don't have to trade or barter. Just take it. The Free Store will be up through March 6, and the opening reception is tonight from 5 to 8. Gallery 400 is located at 400 S. Peoria.

Winter Doldrums Cocktail Dinner @ Naha

Shake off the winter blues with a special dinner highlighting rare teas, spirits and cocktails that are paired with a game and winter root vegetable influenced tasting menu. Red Scarf Dying at Lillstreet Art Center

Just in time for Valentine's Day, attendees learn about the history and chemistry of all-natural dyes as they blend dyes to create their own red scarf. Red Scarf Dyeing Workshop invites all skill levels. The class runs Thursday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. $70 for members/$75 for non-members

Soup and Bread @ Hideout

The Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia) holds its Soup and Bread weekly fundraiser tonight for a local food-related charity where local chefs and foodies prepare a selection of soups for your casual slurping from the bar's crock pots. Donations encouraged. Event runs 5:30-8pm.
