The Women's Caucus for Art, in conjunction with the College Art Association (CAA) conference, will host a panel discussion tonight entitled "Investigating the Need for Women's Art Galleries, Exhibitions, and Organizations: From Our Center." Panelists, including faculty from Chicago State University and DePaul University, will discuss women and leadership in the art community. This free event takes place at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, West Tower, 151 E. Wacker Dr., Room Regency B, from 5:30pm-7:00pm.
Come out and see what the future of art looks like. UIC's MFA students open up their studios and show their newest work to the public today, from 5:30 to 7pm at 400 S. Peoria St.
This bake sale benefit features an art installation by James Casper Jankowiak, art display by glitter artist Sue Zola and an art raffle by 12 artists, and music by local DJs. A $20 door donation gets you complimentary wine and beer along with a complimentary pastry ticket. The money goes to several Chicago-based arts organizations. This event is from 6-10pm at 2003 S. Indie design meetup Bevel--Emboss Merge kicks off another collaborative networking (and drinking) event at evilOlive (1551 W. Division St) tonight from 8p until 3a. Described as a "free party for passionate people in the creative industry", the event's young ambassador, Mig Reyes, seeks to creates alternative spaces for Chicago's design talent to meet, collaborate and make the industry better. Designer? Copywriter? Photographer? Illustrator? Motion Artist? Filmmaker? It doesn't matter--as long as you're into drinks.
Chicago-based indie film collective Rubbish launches their experimental public art project Blowing Kisses tonight at EP Theatre (1820 S. Halsted). Originally created for the 2008 Looptopia event, Blowing Kisses offers anyone who loves Chicago a chance to write or record a personal love letter to the Windy City and be featured on the Blowing Kisses website. The launch party will also feature work from local artists and designers Long Live Analog, Visual Armory, Art School Girl, Dessert for Breakfast, Mean Millies, Emmy Star Brown, Aaron Scamihorn, Joe Van Wetering, Firebelly Design and soopaqoot as well as live acoustic sets from Miles Benjamin of The Loneliest Monk, Jason Ewers & Emmy Chen of Ornery Little Darlings, Reddelicous and others.
