What the Hell Do You Know About Afghanistan?

With Obama sending thousands of more troops to Afghanistan, now would be a good time to learn a bit about the country that we may spend the next few decades occupying. Luckily Iraq Veterans Against the War are hosting a forum at 8 PM at the Hideout on 1354 West Wabansia, for everyone who didn't do so well in geography to catch up. $10 requested donation

Monday Night Dining @ Kendall College

This winter, students of Kendall College's Monday Night Dining Symposium will be interpreting Latin American cuisine for a weekly set five-course banquet. Tonight's menu features Brazilian cuisine. The event takes place in The Dining Room at Kendall College (900 N. Branch St.), with seating starting at 6:30pm and dinner at 7pm. The $38 fee per person covers food, non-alcoholic beverages, and tax, but not gratuity. BYOB with no corkage fee is also available. Reservations are required and can be made online or by calling (312) 752-2328.

EESP Green Room Session @ Emmanuel Congregation

The Edgewater Environmental Sustainability Project is holding a meeting at Emmanuel Congregation (5959 N. Sheridan) tonight at 7pm.

State Senator Heather Steans and State Representative Harry Osterman will host the meeting, which will include interactive surveys and breakout sessions. It will focus on the past year's sustainability plan performance for the Edgewater neighborhood, as well as future plans for the EESP.

Refreshments will be provided.

Iron Cupcake Chile @ Smash Cake

This month Iron Cupcake challenge is between Irma from Beautiful Cake and Michelle from Bleeding Heart Bakery and the special ingredient is chile. $5 gets you in the door and plenty of cupcakes. White Stripes Documentary @ Music Box

Tonight, catch a new documentary about The White Stripes titled "The White Stripes: Under the Great White Northern Lights" filmed right after the release of Icky Thump in 2007, which follows the duo as they take on an ambitious all-encompassing Canadian tour. Directed by Emmett Malloy, who also has shot many White Stripes music videos. Showtime: 7:30pm. The Music Box is located at 3733 N. Southport Ave. Tickets.
