The Pigeons @ Swim Cafe

The Pigeons, written by Joe Zarrow and directed by Cassy Sanders, asks, "Can artists, yuppies, pigeons or anybody escape gentrification?" The real estate farce opens tonight at 8pm and continues Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays through June 7. Tickets are a suggested donation of $10 to $15. Swim Cafe, 1357 W. The Bike Show @ Envision Gallery

This is an art exhibit dedicated to bicycles and the people who ride them, featuring work by Christopher Dilts, Henry Bolzon, Pauline Kochanski, Adam Clark, and Alice Dubois. Curated by Meredith Siemsen. The opening reception is tonight from 6-8pm and the show will stay up through June 12. Flourish Studios Envision Gallery is located at 3020 N Lincoln Ave.

Friday Night Live @ Transistor

Spoken word performers Michelle Renae and Sondra Morin read at Transistor, 5045 N. Clark, as part of "Friday Night Live," April 30 at 8pm. The event is BYOB with a suggested donation of $5. Transistor is an eclectic, "arty" space, selling quality, well-chosen books, music, and electronics, encouraging community interaction through classes, performances, podcasts, and more.

Sticky Forest, Part One @ Prop Thtr

Brain Surgeon Theater's reinterpretation of a Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale opens tonight and runs through May 16. The show, which involves talking ravens, sorcery, puppets, original music and a very small witch and is at 8pm Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm on Sundays, at the Prop Thtr, 3502 N Elston Ave. Buy tickets at ovation tickets or at the door.

School of the Art Institute MFA Exhibition @ Sullivan Galleries

The opening reception for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Graduate Exhibition is from 8-10pm in the Sullivan Galleries at 33 S. State St, 7th floor. The show features work by more than 120 students completing their master's degrees in art and technology studies, ceramics, fiber and material studies, painting and drawing, performance, photography, print media, sculpture, sound, and visual communication design.

Geronimo! CD Release @ Schubas

Geronimo! is throwing their CD release party for their new album Fuzzy Dreams tonight at Schubas (3159 North Southport Avenue). Kid, You'll Move Mountains, Inspector Owl, and polarOPPOSITEbear join Geronimo! to celebrate. The show starts at 9 pm and is 18+. Admission is $8 and can be purchased here.

Art Chicago, Artropolis, and NEXT Art Fairs @ Merchandise Mart

The biggest art fair in the city is this weekend at the Merchandise Mart. Kazillions of local and not-so-local artists will be on display, both established and emerging, and just about every Chicago gallery has a booth set up this weekend at the Mart to showcase their artist's work. The show is from 11-7 today and tomorrow, 11-6 Sunday, and 11-4 on Monday. Tickets range from $15 to $25. Click here for details.

Joel Ross @ The James Hotel

Monique Meloche hosts a toast to Joel Ross at the James Hotel (55 E. Ontario St). Joel Ross is a Chicago-based artist whose work includes the photo installation, Leaving Stories. From 6-7pm, there will be cocktails served in the lobby with the exhibition viewing. Tom Morello IWW Benefit @ Bottom Lounge

Tom Morello, of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, will be performing as the folk/rock Nightwatchman tonight at a benefit for the Industrial Workers of the World at the Bottom Lounge, 1375 W. GB Get-Together @ Beauty Bar

Chicago DJs King Hippo, Gogo and Tony Junior play funk, soul, Brazilian, psychedelia, boogie and deep disco tonight at Rodan (1530 N. Milwaukee Ave). In conjunction with their spring set, the trio will also show experimental and avant-garde film/video on the lounge's massive projection screen. The night starts at 10pm and is totally free.
