"Screaming Queens" documentary showing

Join the Impact Chicago is showing Screaming Queens, a documentary about a pre-Stonewall riot by mostly transgender people that fought back against police raids and brutality. It's showing at the Sulzer Library on 4455 N. Lincoln at 7 p.m.

James Shapiro @ The Newberry Library

Author and Columbia University professor, James Shapiro, speaks at the Newberry Library tonight at 6pm. Shapiro's latest book Contested Will: Who Wrote Shakespeare examines the centuries-old hypothesis of some historians and critics (including Mark Twain and Sigmund Freud) who argued multiple writers or more affluent, well-educated authors penned the Bard's works. Free and open to the public. Reservations are not required. The Newberry Library is at 60 West Walton Street in the Gold Coast neighborhood.

Metropolitan Brewing IPL Release @ Fizz

Ravenswood's Metropolitan Brewing will be releasing their India Pale Lager (yep, you read that right. An India Pale Lager) exclusively at Fizz (3220 N. Lincoln) as part of Chicago Craft Beer Week. There is no cost to attend the tasting which starts at 7pm.

Chapterhouse @ Lincoln Hall

Nearly lost in the mix of British shoegaze bands is Chapterhouse. They only had two LPs and a couple EPs along with a handful of singles: this was a band clearly thinking quality over quantity. Not as heavy as My Bloody Valentine but moreso than Lush, the five-piece achieved moderate success in Europe and hardly any in the US, though it wasn't for a lack of talent. After a long hiatus, they've reunited for some touring. The show starts at 9pm, is for ages 21+ and costs $16. Lincoln Hall is located at 2424 N Lincoln Ave. Tickets are available at the venue's website.

Florecita Soul II @ Darkroom

DJs King Hippo, Gogo, Shazam Bangles and Tony Junior play a solid spring set of Latin funk, salsoul, Tropicália, bossa nova, boogaloo and samba at the second annual Florecita Soul event tonight at Darkroom (2210 W. Chicago Ave). Proceeds from this year's dance party fundraiser benefit Beyondmedia's nonprofit documentary work and programming initiatives. The music starts at 9pm with a suggested donation of $10 at the door. RSVP via Facebook. 21+
