The Italian Way: Food and Social Life @ DePaul

Visual sociologist Douglas Harper of Duquesne University will analyze how the food and foodways of some two dozen families in Bologna, Italy reflect identity and values structure. This free lecture is at 6:30pm in DePaul's Schmitt Academic Center, Room 161, 2320 N. Kenmore.

Natasha & Stacy Benefit Day @ Logan Bar & Grill

Logan Bar & Grill bartender Chris McCaughan's band The Lawrence Arms is playing a sold out benefit show tonight at Subterranean to raise funds to help out Natasha McShane and Stacy Starl Jurich who were brutally attacked as they walked home April 23rd. The staff of Logan Bar has decided to donate 25% of their day's tips, as well as 100% of customer donations to help out the two girls. Logan Bar will match all funds raised today! Annual Juried Reading & Awards Ceremony @ SAIC Ballroom

The Poetry Center of Chicago has announced seven finalists for their 16th Annual Juried Reading Competition -- read about them here. The first through third place winners will be announced at an awards ceremony tonight at 7:30 pm, at the SAIC Ballroom (112 S. Michigan). Admission is free.

Adler After Dark

You can start your weekend early every third Thursday of the month at the Adler Planetarium's Adler After Dark event. This month's schedule includes Lunar Lounge in the Historic Sky Theater featuring live music by Persus Noble, Royce, and Black Umbrella Brigade. See Saturn and the first quarter moon in the Doane Observatory (weather permitting). Next event is Thursday, May 20, 6 - 10pm. Advance tickets are $10, $15 at the door. 21+

Hola México!

Hola México Film Festival - the largest tribute to Mexican film in the world - is coming back to Chicago, bringing with it a vast array of Mexican cinema. The festival reveals hidden gems in the Mexican film industry and "reflects the maturity and complexity of authentic Mexican culture." Hola México Film Festival will be in Chicago May 20 - May 27. Films will be showing at Landmarks Century Center Cinema (2828 N Clark St). Visit the website for tickets and information.

Images of Memory and Decay Exhibition @ Audible Gallery

Today at 6pm on 5925 N. Ravenswood, Alice Hargrave celebrates the opening of her exhibition, "Untitled (family)". Recalling the vernacular reside of family life, her photography explores the parallels between the transience of photographs and way memory is filtered altered over time. Featuring a performance by Anton Hatwich at 7:30pm.

Alberta Cross & 22-20s @ Schubas

Ahead of their new album, Shake/Shiver/Moan, in June, UK rockers 22-20s will be in town for a gig opening for the bluesy rock band Alberta Cross that sounds like a lo-fi Kings of Leon or Raconteurs.
