The Spend @ the Empty Bottle

One-man project The Spend, is performing on Sunday, July 4 at the Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western Ave), with Tiny Vipers from Seattle. It kicks off at 9:30 p.m. Tickets will run you $8. Buy yours online or at the door.

2nd Story @ Morseland

2nd Story continues their monthly live storytelling series at Morseland (1218 W. Morse Ave.) tonight featuring Kim Morris, Deb Lewis, and Doug Whippo. Live music by Los Peregrinos. Veggie Bingo @ Hideout

The fine folks who brought you the weekly fundraiser soup-eating slurp-a-thon Soup and Bread (along with NeighborSpace) have taken their interests to a new activity...bingo. Veggie Bingo runs every Wednesday at the Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia). Event begins at 6pm; cards are $1 each, or 6 for $5. Proceeds benefit Chicago community gardens. Event runs weekly through September 29.

Grant Park Orchestra @ Millennium Park

Tonight the Grant Park Music Festival celebrates Chopin's 200th birthday with his beloved first Piano Concerto. Also on the program, Krzesany by Kilar (known for his Oscar-winning score for The Pianist) and Lutosławski's Concerto for Orchestra, a work inspired by rich Polish folklore. 8pm. Pritzker Pavilion. Free.

The Caldwells & Fishermans @ Mess Hall

After departing for their respected schools nationwide, The Caldwells and
Fishermans return to shore with a special midsummer performance at the unique
community center, Mess Hall. The Caldwells are a gang of four who send out good
vibrations with their 60's pop and garage rock sound. Perfect companions,
Fishermans provide an enchanted journey with their diverse instrumentation
including trumpets and electronic samples that give way to heart-filled group
sing-a-longs. Both groups are looking forward to sharing new material, baked
goods and some good ol' fashioned fun.

The show is at Messhall (6932 N. Glenwood Ave.) from 7 to 10 tonight and is free!

Sweet Treat @ Beauty Bar

Transmission staffers Michelle Meywes and Lisa White come together each Wednesday as DJ Shellster and DJ White Lightnin' for Sweet Treat. Begin your evening at Beauty Bar with them as they play old classics, new indie favorites, and a good dose of not so guilty pleasures. Drink specials include $5 Bud Draft + Jim Beam shot and, per usual, $10 martinis + manicures. 1444 W. Chicago. 7-10pm. Free.
