Grab your lunch and take it to Pritzker Pavilion at noon for an Edible Audible Picnic. Nice Nice are Portland-based Jason Buehler and Mark Shirazi, a duo that have been using guitars, drums, voices, electronics and more to create their "post-everything modern music" for nearly a decade. Now recording for Warp records, the group crafts songs, which weave together seamlessly to create an album-length crescendo, encompassing everything from forward-reaching psychedelia and neo-primitive electronica to dub rhythms.
With their new hit single "Canada" drawing national attention, Portland indie rock group The Thermals looks to continue their success by performing everywhere from Shanghai to Chicago. Their recently released fourth album, Now We Can See, is full of hi-fi power, raw punk energy combined with brilliant melodies and intelligent lyrics. Tonight at Downtown Sound they will be joined by the minimalist rock sound of Chicago group, Disappears. 6:30pm. Pritzker Pavilion. Free.
Songwriter/pianist Julia Klee has sung with well known local musicians such as Joe Pug, but tonight she takes the stage with her very own band as part of the New York Songwriters Circle: Chicago Showcase. Other musicians performing will be Starina, Zach Blew, Brendan Losch, Dan Price and Jesse Passage. Tickets are $10. 8pm. 18 & up. 3159 N. Southport.
