The League of Awesome Opening Night @ Factory Theater

The Factory Theater's latest production, The League of Awesome, is an original work written by Factory ensemble members Corri Feuerstein and Sara Sevigny. Prepare for 90 minutes of nonstop action as the cast perform a piece that's two parts comic book story, one part farce, and completely entertaining. Tonight is opening night, and $25 gets you a ticket plus a party with the cast post-show. The Factory Theater is located at 3502 N. Elston. Bitchpork Fest @ Mortville

This underground alternative to Pitchfork Fest is guaranteed to be entertaining. There are a TON of bands playing today, tomorrow, and Sunday (mostly local!) so click here for the details. Bitchpork will be at Mortville in Little Villiage (2106 S. Kedzie) this year. The first band goes on at 5pm today.

StoryStudio Chicago Writer's Retreat in Lake Forest

The annual StoryStudio Chicago Writers Retreat is a full weekend of writing, classes, socializing, and communing with nature at the famous Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest. From today through the 18th, class sessions will focus on honing your craft and getting deeper into your characters and stories. The theme this year is "Writing the Land", and will take advantage of Ragdale's five acres of natural beauty.

Pitchfork Music Festival @ Union Park

The Pitchfork Music Festival once again brings booming sound to Chicago on a steamy 3-day weekend of fun. Gates open at 3pm tonight and music runs till 10pm. Also on site are food and beverage vendors, Flatstock poster show, Coterie craft fair, CHIRP record fair (look for our Gapers Block table!), record labels, non-profits, Rock for Kids auction items and much more. Keep an eye on Transmission for more previews and day-of-show recaps as the festival goes on.

The Art of Touring Opening @ Johalla Projects

This is a multimedia exhibit of work by musicians, inspired by touring and life on the road. It brings together some of the talent from the book Art of Touring (square root books) and the local music community, to showcase creative endeavors when not rockin' on the stage. Whether video, pictures, sketches or written word, these musicians keep their creative edge sharp while whittling away the hours in a van, on a plane or walking about the cities they frequent. The opening is tonight from 7-11pm at Johalla Projects (1561 N Milwaukee Ave).

Grant Park Orchestra @ Millennium Park

Tonight the Grant Park Music Festival continues with this family oriented concert including Respighi's La Boutique Fantasque, with its depiction of the joyful dances of dolls in a toy shop come to life, as well as Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, a perfect introduction to the orchestral instruments. 6:30pm. Pritzker Pavilion. Free.

likemind Chicago @ Argo Tea
