Ernest Hemingway Birthday Lecture @ Ernest Hemingway Museum

Today is Ernest Hemingway's 101st birthday. To celebrate, the Ernest Hemingway Museum is having an open house at 3:30pm, then at 7:30pm Thomas J. Putnam, Director of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum will present the lecture Treasures from Hemingway's Trunk: Highlights from the Ernest Hemingway Collection at the John F. Kennedy Library. Sound Opinions Movie Night: Dazed and Confused

Chicago Public Radio and the Music Box present another Sound Opinions movie night. Tonight's film is the 1993 Richard Linklater film Dazed and Confused, starring a large cast of soon-to-be-famous actors in a story about high school graduation in 1976. So of course it has an excellent rock & roll soundtrack. The film screens tonight at 7:30pm; doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are $9 in advance, and can be purchased online. Music Box: 3733 N. Veggie Bingo @ Hideout

The fine folks who brought you the weekly fundraiser soup-eating slurp-a-thon Soup and Bread (along with NeighborSpace) have taken their interests to a new activity...bingo. Veggie Bingo runs every Wednesday at the Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia). Event begins at 6pm; cards are $1 each, or 6 for $5. Proceeds benefit Chicago community gardens. Event runs weekly through September 29.

Clip Art @ Empty Bottle

Local group Clip Art celebrates the release of their new EP, Broken By Design, with a performance at the Empty Bottle tonight. Read more about the band in Transmission. Tickets are $8. Planet Earth Live w/ Grant Park Orchestra @ Millennium Park

Tonight as part of the Grant Park Music Festival, BBC Earth presents its ground-breaking nature documentary film as it makes its world-premiere tour, featuring a score by five-time Academy Award-winning composer George Fenton, who also conducts. 8:30pm. Pritzker Pavilion. Free

Eco-Crafting the Perfect Picnic #3: Dew-proof Picnic Blanket & Pinwheels

Learn how to make an eco-friendly picnic blanket using vintage linens and discarded grocery bags at this third adult workshop in a series.
