Taste of the Neighborhoods Tour

The City hosts a tour today of the eats representing selected neighborhoods around Chicago--Greek on Halsted, Italian on Taylor, South side BBQ, Middle Eastern in Albany Park--and you can join them! The Taste of the Neighborhoods tour series meets monthly; destinations are announced a few weeks before the tour, so contact the City to find out what's on the menu for today.

Fat Bitch! @ Getz Theater

Enjoy "A Night of Comedy" tonight at Columbia College's Getz Theater, 62 E. 11th St., with Chicago native Erica Watson, as she brings her one-woman show, Fat Bitch!, back to town. Free Dance Performances and Instruction @ The Dance Center of Columbia College

In celebration of ten years at their 1306 S. Michigan Ave. location, the Dance Center of Columbia College will present 13 hours of free dance performances, workshops, and classes. The event, 1306 - Ten Years Later, will fill the studios, theater, hallways, and even the stairwells of 1306 S. Michigan Ave. with activites from 10am until 11pm. 1306 - Ten Years Later is free to the public, and requires no tickets or RSVPs. Celebrate the Power of Preservation @ The Former Sears Power House

Preservation Chicago's annual fund-raising event will be held this evening at the historic Sears Power House in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood, 931 S. Homan Avenue. The party will run from 7pm-10pm, with an open bar, hors d'oeuvres, music by the Corey Wilkes quartet, tours of the building and a silent auction. Tickets are $85 in advance or $100 at the door. Free valet parking will be provided.

Feria de Mole @Universidad Popular

Universidad Popular, 2801 S. Hamlin Ave., hosts its fifth annual Feria de Mole from 1 to 6 p.m. Adult admission to the fair is $10, which earns you the equally important rights to taste and judge all mole entries. Rib-A-Que Smokeout @Moonshine

Moonshine, 1824 W. Division, hosts its third annual Rib-A-Que Smokeout today from 12-6 p.m.

Amateur and professional competitors -- including Smoke Daddy, SmallBar, and the Chicago Police Department -- will vie for the Smoke-Out Champion title by preparing ribs and side dishes. Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door, and include voting rights and unlimited samples.

Tours and Showcase @ Growing Home

Growing Home hosts an Employment Training Program Showcase at the Wood Street Urban Farm, 5814 S. Wood, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission includes refreshments made from the farm's organic produce; access to the farm stand; farm tours; and produce-related workshops.

Suggested donation is $5, or the pile of used plastic grocery bags you've got stuffed under your sink (Growing Home can re-use them at the farm stand).

Tu Fawning @ Metro

Tu Fawning is a mess of sounds that cleans up real nice. Ranging from math and indie rocks as well heartfelt jazz and some tribal drums, the band hold their own has a sound that is unique. They will release their first full length release Hearts On Hold on October 5th and the band plays at the Metro tonight opening for Suckers and Menomena. The Metro is located at 3750 N. Kegs for Kids @ Metropolis Roasting Garage

The Hopleaf and Metropolis Coffee Company host a Kegs for Kids fundraiser for Helen C. Peirce School of International Studies tonight from 4pm to 9pm at the Metropolis Roasting Garage, 5545 N. Clark Street. The event will feature live music, a silent auction, and 30-plus one-off beers from breweries like Dogfish Head, Dark Horse, 3 Floyds, Founders and Half Acre. Tickets are $40 in advance or $50 at the door, and include unlimited beer, food, and coffee.

Active Trans Bike and Dine Tour

The Fearmakers @ Music Box Theatre

The Music Box Theatre presents a new weekend matinee screening series for September that brings noir to the forefront. Screening as a part of the theater's "Films By Jacques Tourneur", The Fearmakers (1958) brings the communist scare in Hollywood to Washington politics. A Korean War vet finds his DC-based PR firm taken over by communists bent on influencing the public and lobbyists with their own agenda. Screening starts at 11:30am at the Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport). Tickets are $9.75 and can be purchased at the theater box office.

Zombie Fest Chicago @ Hawthorne Race Course

Zombie Fest Chicago crawls out of the dirt this afternoon at Cicero's Hawthorne Race Course (3501 S. Laramie). Featuring a roster of Chicago hardcore and metal acts including Cobia, Punch Cabbie, Stuck Underwater Diagon Alley, Soul Pollution and Illusions Fate, the all-ages show supports the Wounded Warrior Project. With zombie costume contests, movies, vendors and sponsors like Girls & Corpses Magazine there should be plenty of brain-eating going on. Doors open at 2pm, bands start at 3pm.
