A Taste of the Marathon Course @ Fleet Feet Pipers Alley

The Chicago Marathon is less than two weeks away. Get your run on by participating in this delicious preview. Start the evening with a 3 to 6-mile run, which begins and ends at Fleet Feet Sports' Pipers Alley location, 1620 N. Wells St. After the run, sample food from restaurants located in neighborhoods hosting the marathon, including Lakeview, Old Town, Little Italy, Chinatown and Pilsen. Finally, toast the evening with Goose Island's 312 Urban Wheat Ale. The event is free. RSVP online.

Michal Pawel Markowski on Polish Literature @ UIC

If asked to name as many Polish novelists as I can think of, I might only be able to come up with one. But the University of Illinois at Chicago can help save me from my ignorance: they've hired world-renowned scholar of Polish literature and culture Michal Pawel Markowski as the inaugural Stefan and Lucy Hejna family chair in Polish language and literature.

Tonight at UIC, join Markowski as he answers the question "What is Polish Literature?" Room 302 in Student Center East, 750 S. Halsted St., 5-7pm.

Caipirinha Making Class @SushiSamba Rio

Got a case of the Mondays? Douse it with cachaça, a fermented sugarcane liquor that's the basis of the caipirinha, Brazil's national cocktail. SushiSamba Rio, 504 N. Wells, is hosting a free caipirinha making class from 4 to 5 p.m., so sneak out of work early and drown your anticipatory workweek sorrows in cachaça, sugar and lime juice.

Alejandro Urzagaste Trio @ Ratchet

See the Alejandro Urzagaste Trio tonight at Skylark in Pilsen as part of the weekly jazz and creative music series, Ratchet. Urzagaste will be on guitar, while Dennis Carroll plays bass and George Fludas the drums. 10pm. Donations accepted. 2149 S. Halsted St.

Women @ Schubas

Canadian band Women drew acclaim last year with their DIY lo-fi style on their self-titled debut album (most notably for the song "Black Rice"). Their new album, Public Strain, comes out in the US tomorrow, but tonight you can catch them at Schubas. Maybe if we're lucky they'll sell some midnight copies at the show! Tickets are $10 ($12 door). 8pm. 3159 N. Southport. 18+
