LaPorte, Indiana @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a screening of LaPorte, Indiana, the movie companion to Jason Bitner's book containing a sampling of 18,000 photos he happened upon in a diner in LaPorte, Indiana. Story Club @ Uncommon Ground

Story Club, a monthly open mic storytelling series, combines the spontaneity of an open mic with featured readings at Uncommon Ground (3800 N. Clark). Xiang Zou @ Ganz Hall

Xiang Zou, one of the leading pianists of his generation in China, performs Schubert, Liszt, Messiaen and more. The concert is free and takes place at Ganz Hall, 430 S. Michigan Ave. at 8pm.

Book Bike Fundraiser @ Empty Bottle

Heavemedia is proud to partner up with Gabriel Levinson of Book Bike to produce a fundraiser event. Though Book Bike hides away from the cold temperatures in its secret storage place, Gabriel and Heavemedia aren't ready to put the project to sleep.

Chicago musicians Sad Brad Smith, Adam Fitz, and Stephen Paul Smoker will be playing the event at the Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western Ave). Gabriel will also be bringing Book Bike out from storage to give away some free books during the show. Admission is only $5, with a portion of the proceeds going directly to Book Bike. Tickets can be purchased in advance here.

Love Flows Both Ways: Street Culture x Contemporary Art @ Chicago Loop Alliance

Love Flows Both Ways: Street Culture x Contemporary Art was curated by Oliver Hild of the Maxwell Colette Gallery. This show features artwork by monster-sized international art-stars: Banksy, Bast, Faile, Keith Haring, Shepard Fairey, Kaws, Buff Monster, Crash, Space Invader, Takashi Murakami, Damien Hirst, Saber, Slinkachu, Barry Mcgee, Ray CRO Noland and others. Mortified @ Beat Kitchen

If you'd be an Olympic athlete were laughing at yourself (or others) a sport, then find "personal redemption through public humiliation" this Thursday at the nationwide phenomenon Mortified. Since 2002, countless participants have willingly shared writing, art or media created before the age of 21 to exorcise their demons for laughs. The concept is such a hit they're making a movie and they've already published two books. Beat Kitchen, 2100 W. Belmont, 8:30pm. Atmosphere @ Congress Theatre

It is a tour for all his friends and there's a promise of surprise if you check out Atmosphere, who will perform tonight at the Congress Theatre with a live band and label-mates Blueprint and Grieves & Budo. The show begins at 7:30pm and tickets are $23. You can purchase them here.

World Kitchen: Apples by the Bushel @ Gallery 37

Musical of the Living Dead

Celebrate Halloween, zombies, and musicals throughout the month of October with Musical of the Living Dead, the story of ten very different people bound together by an undead apocalypse. Produced by The Cowardly Scarecrow Theatre Company INC, it runs every Thursday through Saturday, 7:30pm, at the Charnel House, 3421 W. Fullerton Ave (with a special performance on Halloween).
