The Official "Savage Love with Dan and Bill Savage" After-Party @ Berlin

Tickets to see Dan Savage speak at the Chicago Humanities Festival are sold out. Thank goodness for the after party, hosted by Chicago comic Cameron Esposito and The Reader. Entertainment will be provided by DoubleDJ, Fawzia Mirza, and DJ Greg Haus. Doors open at 10:30pm. The first 100 guests receive goodie bags from Pleasure Chest. Aloe Blacc @ Schubas

Two solo albums, an EP and numerous releases for collaborations have made Aloe Blacc's name synonymous with workhorse over the last few years. He headlines Schubas tonight: Maya Jupiter and DJRC open. The show starts at 10pm, is 21+ and tickets are $12. Schubas is on the corner of Belmont & Southport.

California Wives @ Bottom Lounge

Let's get out of the way first that California Wives are neither from California nor even wives. They're a Chicago quartet that's been crafting indie-rock sprinkled with touches of synth-pop, new wave and post-punk. Their intricate percussion calls to mind Autolux, but it's their earworming hooks and soaring choruses that define them. of1000faces, Elephant Stone, the Idle Hands open at 9pm. The show's 21+ and $8. The Bottom Lounge is at 1375 W. Lake.

Stew and The Negro Problem @ MCA

Check out Stew, the Tony Award-winning creator and star of Broadway's Passing Strange, and collaborator Heidi Rodeward with bands The Negro Problem and Stew. They've recorded seven albums and are performing tonight and tomorrow night at the Museum of Contemporary Art (220 E Chicago Ave). Both shows start at 7:30pm. Tickets are $28, $22 for members, and $10 for students. You can purchase tickets and get more information here.

"Escape Route" Exhibit @ Chicago Art Department Gallery

Go to the Chicago Art Department (1837 S. Halsted) tonight from 6 to 10pm to see works of art by the youth at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center. The art was created as part of the Free Write Jail Arts and Literacy Program, which offers writing and poetry workshops to incarcerated youth.
