Tuesday Funk @ Hopleaf
Now that the holidays are officially over, and you've resolved to go to more live readings, it's time to head over to Hopleaf for this month's installment of Tuesday Funk. Tonight's readers include Christopher Sweet, Alyson Lyon, Valerie Jupe, Cesar Tores, Suzanne Clores, and Mare Swallow, hosted by Sara Ross and William Shunn. Hopleaf is located at 5148 N. Clark Street. Seating begins at 7pm, reading begins at 7:30pm, and admission is free.
David Wojnarowicz: A Fire in My Belly @ Smart Museum of Art
The Smart Museum displays David Wojnarowicz's video A Fire in My Belly, joining institutions around the country who are displaying the work in protest of its removal from the National Portrait Gallery exhibition, Hide/Seek: Desire and Difference in American Portraiture. The original 13-minute video, accompanied by a 7-minute chapter found among the artist's collection, is on display until February 6. The Smart Museum of Art, 5550 S. Greenwood Ave. (773) 702-0200.
