Tonight Midwestern hip-hop meets Pacific Coast hip-hop at Schubas. Astronautalis headlines with Minneapolis-based MC Sims opens. The show starts at 8 p.m., tickets are $10 presale or $12 at the door.

Godspeed You Black Emperor @ Metro - SOLD OUT

Montreal's post-rock titans Godspeed You Black Emperor have infuriated fans with punctuation alterations and political diatribes, but there is no denying that during their heyday they stood out from the field by making some of the most engaging experimental instrumental rock music of the era. After a hiatus, they've now reconvened for some live shows. Tonight marks the second of three in Chicago. Godspeed You Black Emperor headlines Metro. Eric Chenaux opens at 8pm. The show's 18+ and sold out. Metro's located at 3730 N Clark.

UnTill Emmett Till @ DuSable Museum

The DuSable Museum of African-American History, 740 E. 56th Pl., presents "UnTill Emmett Till," today from 4pm to 7pm. Created by jazz saxophonist and composer Ernest Dawkins, this work, in conjunction with the museum's For All the World to See: Visual Culture and Struggle for Civil Rights exhibit, pays tribute to the anniversary of Till's 1955 murder. Two Chicago artists, spoken-word poet Khari B. and jazz singer Dee Alexander accompany Dawkins in the performance.

Long Lazy Lunch Picnic @ ACRE

ACRE hosts a "Long Lazy Lunch" picnic today from 4-8pm at 1913 W. 17th St.-- an afternoon of treats and libations featuring musical performances by ACRE residents. This is a celebration of the release of KADABRA: Recipes and Miscellany from ACRE 2010-- part cookbook, part scrapbook created by Melissa Damasauskus and Rachel Ettling, who command the kitchen at ACRE's summer residency program. Also available are ACRE's new calendar tea towels designed by Alex Chitty and Jessica Taylor Caponigro. Performances include improvised acoustic melodies by Matt Austin and EJ Hill, noise influenced tunes by Marvin Astorga and Young Joon Kwak, and experimental video djing by John Paul Glover. KADABRA: Recipes and Miscellany from ACRE 2010 contains excerpts from the original overflowing binder of recipes used to feed the residents of ACRE's 2010 summer residency program. This handmade book is documentation of the first ACRE residency kitchen, highlighting favorite recipes and featuring notes, anecdotes, photographs and reflections on learning to cook creatively and resourcefully for a large group of varied eaters.
