The Southeast Environment Task Force leads a "Toxics to Treasures" trolly tour today from 10am to 1pm, starting and ending at its offices at 13300 S. Baltimore Ave. in Hegewisch. The tour will feature remnants of heavy industry alongside the natural beauty of the wetlands and former industrial land -- plus legal and illegal dumping sites and possibly the site of a proposed CPD outdoor firing range. Tonight at the Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., Madina Lake plays its first show in Chicago with bassist Matthew Leone since he was brutally beaten after intervening in a domestic dispute. Munroe and Stay Golden open. Tickets are $11 in advance, $13 at the door. Doors open at 6pm. All ages.
The Windy City Rollers will be presenting their second-to-last regular season bout today at the UIC Pavilion (525 S. Racine Ave). The bout begins at 6pm and tickets start at $20. You can get yours online or at the door.
Registration for the Wrigley Start Early 5k & 10k run/walk starts at 7:30am this morning, with the 1-mile pledge walk starting at 9am, the 5k starting at 9:10am and the 10k starting at 9:15am. Registration is still open and costs $20-$35; proceeds benefit Prevent Child Abuse America, Voices for Illinois Children and Casa Central.
Three of Chicago's most celebrated art spaces - threewalls, Roots and Culture, and Public Media Institute - present the MDW Fair, a celebration and gathering of Chicagoland area independent art initiatives, spaces, galleries, publishers, and artist groups. Featuring exhibited works, talks, and performances, the fair aims to "demonstrate the diversity, strength, and vision of the people/places making it happen in the art ecology of our region." The MDW Fair takes place at the Geolofts (3636 South Iron Street) on April 23 from 1pm to 10pm and April 24 from 1pm to 6pm. Admission to the fair is $5.
