The Dollhouse Reading Series @ 1850 W. Belle Plaine

If you haven't been to The Dollhouse Reading Series yet (1850 W. Belle Plaine Ave, Apt 3), you won't want to miss this one. Tonight the series has a celebrity theme: it's BYOB and bring your favorite celebrity quote (they've specifically requested no Charlie Sheen -- everyone's probably heard enough by now). Featured poets include Nick Demske, Sarah Fox, Daniel Borzutzky, and Sarah Carson. The doors open at 8pm, and the reading begins at 9pm. Admission is free.

The Interview Show @ Hideout

Mark Bazer's Interview Show returns to The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia St., from 6:30pm to 8pm tonight. Guests this month include Steve James and Alex Kotlowitz, filmmakers behind the new documentary The Interrupters; novelist Marcus Sakey; hip hop artist Psalm One; and singer-songwriter Krista Detor. $8 at the door, 21+.

Raphael Saadiq @ Park West

There are a lot of acts that play a modern brand of R&B that harks back to its glory years. However, few are in a league with Raphael Saadiq who also exemplifies the qualities of that genre's best frontmen. He sings, dances, riles up the crowd and puts on the moves like few performers. His latest album, Stone Rollin', is yet another solid effort, but it's his performances that really floor listeners. Raphael Saadiq headlines Park West. The show's 18+ and starts at 8PM. Tickets are $30. For more information, visit Park West.

Chicago Foodways Rountable: Ken Hom @ Kendall College

Writer and chef Louisa Chu will interview Ken Hom as part of the Chicago Foodways Roundtable of the Culinary Historians of Chicago. A native Chicagoan, Hom started out washing dishes at King Wah, became a cooking mentor to Charlie Trotter and Ming Tsai, and lends his name to an extremely popular line of woks. Surely there are more exciting details to learn as well! Talk starts at 7pm, tickets are $5 per person (free to Kendall students and faculty with ID). To reserve a spot leave a message at (847) 432-8255 with your name, telephone number and how many people in your party or e-mail the Roundtable. Kendall College, 900 N. Branch Street.

Lincoln Square Maifest

Maifest makes a mess of Lincoln Square June 2-5 this year. The festival celebrates the (hopefully) good spring weather with German food, music and lots of beer. The revelries continue at Lincoln and Leland avenues tonight from 5:30pm to 11pm.
