Make Music Chicago Festival

Make Music Chicago is a live, one-day, completely free music festival on the first day of summer, inspired by France's "Fête de la Musique," a national musical holiday marking its 30th anniversary this year. People of all ages, music of all genres, and musicians of all levels are invited to gather throughout the day in Chicago's public spaces to engage in spontaneous music-making. These events go on all day: 7am to 5pm culminating to a grand finale concert from 5:15 to 9pm at St. James Cathedral Commons. This event takes place at public spaces citywide, including Daley Plaza (50 W. Washington), Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington), Alliance Française (810 N. Food Truck Tuesdays

If you too are skeptical of the food truck hype, you may want to head to the northwest corner of North and Halsted tonight between 4pm and 7pm for Food Truck Tuesdays. At least four trucks will be there every Tuesday in June.

YCA Fundraiser & Poetry Expo @ Elastic Arts

The Young Chicago Authors Fundraiser & Poetry Expo (Elastic Arts, 2830 N. Milwaukee Ave.) happens tonight from 7-10pm! Your $5 (under 25) or $10 (over 25) will get you food and drinks, as well as performances by a wide range of people, including poets, singers, DJs, and MCs. Your money will also be put to good use: it will help send YCA youth to the Allied Media Conference in Detroit.

Summer Solstice Soiree with The Knocks and DMC

Celebrate the longest day of Summer at Rockit River North (22 W. Hubbard St.) with a live performance by The Knocks and DMC in the upstairs lounge June 21st. The event goes from 6-9pm and has limited capacity so arrive early.

Summer Solstice is sponsored by Corona Light with passed appetizers from 7-8 p.m.
