The Hideout is hosting a special Soup and Bread benefit program tonight to help fund the cleanup and repairs of the Garfield Park Conservatory, which was severely damaged by last Thursday's hail. Stop by The Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia) tonight (5:30 - 8pm) and stuff your face for a good cause. Details here.
Tonight at 7:30pm, Magic Chicago's monthly show at the City Lit Theater, 1020 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., features New York's Ran'D Shine, Danish magician Jan Hellesoe and Chicago's own Tevell Rose. Tickets are $20 in advance or at the door.
The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, is hosting a special summer edition of Soup & Bread tonight to raise funds for the Garfield Park Conservatory, which suffered catastrophic damage in last week's hailstorm. A group of Librarians by day and Zinesters by night are taking their talents on the road, touring around in the Fly Away Zine Mobile, a bookmobile dedicated to DIY and self-publishing.
Tour participants are Jenna Freedman (Lower East Side Librarian and Barnard Zine Collection); Jami Sailor (Your Secretary zine and Chicago Public Library Near North Branch Librarian); John Stevens (Dilettantes and Heartless Manipulators); Celia Perez (I Dreamed I Was Assertive and Atlas of Childhood); and Debbie Rasmussen (former publisher of Bitch: Feminist Response to Popular Culture) who's latest venture is the Fly Away Zine Mobile.
The tour stops by Chicago July 6th, 7pm at Quimbys 1854 W. North ave.
Reading Under the Influence offers up the theme "Poison" with featured readings by Adam McOmber (fitting as he authored the book, This New and Poisonous Air), 2nd Story contributor Eileen Dougharty, Mason Johnson and Adam Wood. At Sheffield's (3258 N Sheffield Ave) 7pm, 21+, $3.
