The Neo-Futurists wind up the 10th year of It Came From The Neo-Futurarium, their annual series of staged readings of movie scripts, with a production of 1984's classic Purple Rain, directed by Mike Przygoda. Tonight at 8pm at Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave., there's a benefit concert for the hail-damaged Garfield Park Conservatory featuring Bobby Conn, Del Rey, Sunken Ships, Bare Mutants, Rivals of the Peacemaker and DJ Scary Lady Sarah. There will also be a silent auction and raffle, with dozens of items available. Tickets are $20, with proceeds going to the conservatory. 21+
The Chicago Ice Cream & Gelato Festival runs from 6pm to 9pm both today and Friday at the Grand Piazza at the National Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame, 1431 W. Taylor St. Sample ice cream and gelato made by regional "micro-creameries" including Canady le Chocolatier, Graeter's of Ohio, Homer's Ice Cream, Hudsonville Creamery, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, Mitchell’s Soda Shop, Polyscience (makers of the Anti-griddle), Shawn Michelle's Ice Cream and Zingerman’s Creamery -- plus demos by several pastry chefs and some non-dairy desserts and drinks as well. Jeni Britton Bauer will sign copies of her new book, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home, both nights. Admission is $25 in advance or at the door; children are $10.
