Contraphonic Records Presents: The Indian Boundary Line DVD Release Show @ Roxaboxen Exhibitions

The Contraphonic Sound Series is expanding its catalog to produce its first-ever DVD release with Little Hell Vol VI: The Indian Boundary Line, from Chicago-based filmmaker and musician Thomas Comerford. This special edition of the DVD will feature the DVD, and in the tradition of other Little Hell releases, a digital audio release and accompanying PDF booklet. The audio release comes from Never Enough Hope leader and Chicago composer Tobin Summerfield, as performed by him, drummer Frank Rosaly and Pillars & Tongues' frontman Mark Trecka. The booklet will feature essays from Tom McCormack, Christy LeMaster and Michael Phillips, Jr. The Indian Boundary Line follows a road in Chicago, Rogers Avenue, that traces the 1816 Treaty of St. Louis boundary between the United States and "Indian Territory." Come to the Roxaboxen Minicastle, 2130 W. 21st St., for a screening with Thomas Comerford and live music by Tobin Summerfield, plus other guests, from 9pm to 11:30pm tonight.

The Apartment @ Siskel Film Center

Billy Wilder's classic comedy was nominated for 10 Academy Awards in 1961, and won 5 (including Best Picture). Jack Lemmon plays an insurance company lackey who loans out his apartment for his bosses to spend time with their not-wives. 50 years later, it's as sharp as ever. Plays tonight at 6pm at the Siskel Film Center at 164 N. State. Also showing Sep 20.

Parklife @ Lucky Number Grill

Active Child & Chad Valley @ Schubas

Two solo acts, Active Child and Chad Valley, roll into Schubas tonight. Los Angeles-based Pat Grossi's most recent album as Active Child, You Are All I See, seems like a natural progression for a choir boy stretching sonic boundaries. Oxonian Hugo Manuel has been involved with the band Jonquil and brings some electronics and a superb voice to his Chad Valley project. Chicago's Magic Key opens at 10PM. The show's 18+ and $12. Schubas is at the corner of Belmont & Southport.

ART WAR @ Treasure Town

This epic, experimental, two-day art/performance fest in Little Village promises to deliver, with interactive installations, live murals, combative performance, culinary experiments, sustainable fashion, fire spitters, a skate park, a tattoo artist & the tamale guy (to skim the surface). If you're looking for a lively, unusual time, look no further. This event starts at 8:08pm tonight and basically continues on until about 3am on Satuday night. Treasure Town is located off the Pink Line at 2106 S. Kedzie. More more information, click here and here.

Dikanda & House of Waters @ Old Town School

Tonight at the Old Town School of Folk Music (4544 N. Lincoln Avenue), starting at 8pm, you can catch some Polish/Eastern European and progressive instrumental music.

Dikanda, from Szczecin, Poland, takes inspiration from Polish, Balkan, Macedonian and Romanian culture. House of Waters, which cites numerous traditions as formative, was hailed as the "Jimi Hendrix of the hammered dulcimer" by NPR.

There is a $10 suggested donation.

Delirium Friday @ Paddy Long's

You may know Paddy Longs as the home of the summer pig roast, but this Friday, the bar will be celebrating Belgian Delirium beers (Tremens, Nocturnum, and Christmas brew Noel) on draft by giving away some official glassware with each glass. No more pilfering pint glasses in your bag (illegal and dangerous, shame on you)! And as with many complex beers, Delirium always seems to taste better served in the appropriate stemware. Score on two counts. Mussels cooked in Delirium will also be on the menu. No reservations required, and Delirium Day giveaways begin at 7pm. Paddy Longs, 1028 W. Diversey, 773.290.6988.
