Riot Fest: X @ Bottom Lounge

Riot Fest kicks off its 2011 festival at Bottom Lounge with rockabilly punk band X performing their seminal album Los Angeles in full, preceded by a showing of their documentary X: The Unheard Music. The show starts at 8 pm at 1375 W Lake St. Tickets are sold out, but you can try your luck on Craigslist or at the door. Check out full Riot Fest coverage over in Transmission.

Reading Under the Influence: Undressed


Reading Under the Influence breaks their tradition by having five readers and celebrating three book releases with their theme this month being: Undressed.

The event features local authors Gina Frangello (reads from her new "Men Undressed" anthology), Megan Stielstra (reads from her new short story e-collection "Everyone Remain Calm"), Gus Rose (author of the forthcoming "Conman"), visual artist and blogger Philip Hartigan and Curbside Splendor publisher Victor David Giron (celebrating the first anniversary of his book, "Sophomoric Philosophy". Come for readings, trivia and a good time on Wednesday October 5th, 7pm, $3 at Sheffield's, 3258 N. Sheffield Ave.

Wet Hot American Summer with David Wain @ the Music Box

Director David Wain will be on hand for a special screening his film Wet Hot American Summer at the Music Box Theatre. Sponsored by the A.V. Club's long-running series The New Cult Canon, writer Scott Tobias will moderate a Q&A session with the director following the film. Event starts at 7:30pm and the tickets are on sale here. The Music Box Theatre is located at 3733 N. Southport Ave. 773-871-6607.

BYOB Drinking and Drawing @ Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts

Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts, 1012 N. Dearborn St. 3rd floor, will be hosting their most requested event, Drinking and Drawing, tonight between 6pm and 9pm. Starting off the night will be a BYOB reception from 6-6:45pm, giving everyone a chance to socialize and enjoy their drinks. Following the reception will be instructor-led drawing session from 7pm-9pm, which includes drawing a live model. Let the creative juices and drinks flow while creating a piece of artwork. Tickets are $49 or $38 for early bird. All art supplies are included. 21+

ICE presents "Chance Operations" @ Museum of Contemporary Art

The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) presents "Chance Operations," a night of modern classical compositions involving random chance-based operations as part of their construction. October 5 at 7:30pm at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Works by John Cage, Morton Feldman, Iannis Xenakis, Pauline Oliveros, and Anton Webern. Tickets are $22 (members), $28 (nonmembers), $10 (students). The MCA is located at 22 E. Chicago Ave. More information in Transmission.
