Facets Fright School: The Love Thrill Murders

Facets Multimedia presents the return of Facets Night School, their semi-regular series of midnight cult movie screenings paired with lectures on the films' subjects (renamed Facets Fright School for this run, due to this series' focus on horror films). Tonight's screening: the Manson Family/hippie film The Love Thrill Murders, with a lecture given by writer (and founding member of Everything Is Terrible!) Katie Rife. Facets Fright School runs Friday and Saturday nights at midnight through October 29. See the schedule on the Facets Website for full details. Facets: 1517 W. Fullerton. (800) 331-6197.

Spirit Dinner @ Mercadito

Mercadito is opening up their Mexican sauna-esque private room downstairs for a series of Spirit Dinners. Four course sharing menus are developed by infusing the "spirit of the evening" into each dish, then pairing it with a cocktail using the same spirit. Get the walk through of the spirit's development from a local rep and sip yourself to better knowledge of Fortaleza Tequila tonight.

Tickets are $55 each. For reservations call: (312) 329-9555.

Dum Dum Girls @ Empty Bottle

Dum Dum Girls write terrifically catchy ballads of wayward love, and the group's profile has ascended rapidly on the strength of near everything they've released over the last two years. They're currently touring in support of their latest, Only In Dreams, which eliminates the previous lo-fi production and proves the group are more than just the summery scenesters so many of their contemporaries have become. Dum Dum Girls play the Empty Bottle tonight at 10pm. Crocodiles and Colleen Green open. Tickets are $14 and are available only at the door. The Empty Bottle is located at 1035 N. Western Ave.
