Open House Chicago

The Chicago Architecture Foundation hosts Open House Chicago, a two-day, citywide tour of more than 100 architecturally significant places. Go behind the scenes at the Garfield Park Conservatory, explore the basement at the Cultural Center, tour Patel Brothers grocery, or check out the Little Black Pearl Arts Center, among many others. All of it is free; create your own itinerary online. All locations are open from 9am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday unless otherwise noted.

Facets Fright School: I Walked With A Zombie

Facets Multimedia presents the return of Facets Night School, their semi-regular series of midnight cult movie screenings paired with lectures on the films' subjects (renamed Facets Fright School for this run, due to this series' focus on horror films). Tonight's screening: the 1943 classic I Walked With A Zombie, one of producer Val Lewton's most famous films. The accompanying lecture will be given by Facets Night School regular Stephen Reginald. Chicago Comedy Film Festival

The Chicago Comedy Film Festival runs this weekend at ShowPlace ICON, 150 W. Roosevelt Rd. Today's program starts at noon, with the last screening starting at 9pm. Tickets for each screening session are $8 in advance, $10 at the door; weekend VIP passes are available for $75. See the schedule for full details.

Music Box Massacre 7

The Music Box, 3733 N. Southport Ave., hosts its seventh annual Music Box Massacre marathon of horror films, starting at noon today and running till noon Sunday. In addition to the 13 films, there will be vendor booths, prizes and charity auctions benefiting Vital Bridges. Advance tickets are sold out, but 100 tickets will be available at the door for $38 on a first-come-first-served basis. Don't forget your pillow.

Dance Chicago Dance Slam

Dance Chicago's Dance Slam claims to be the world's largest dance competition, and with more than 3,000 dancers performing more than 300 dances in 13 programs, there's no need to argue. It all takes place at the University of Chicago's Mandel Hall, 1131 E. 57th St., starting at 8pm. Tickets are $25, which seems like a steal for so much dance.

THC Reading Series @ Tamale Hut Cafe

The Tamale Hut Cafe Reading Series presents their Halloween edition tonight. Featured readers are Chicago State MFA student Kara Taylor and local film director and Columbia College grad Chris Hyatt. Tamale Hut Cafe, 8300 W. Cermak Road, North Riverside, 7pm.

Nightmare on Clark Street Bar Crawl

Field test your Halloween costume at Nighmare on Clark Street, a bar crawl through Wrigleyville today from 11am to 5pm starting at the Cubby Bear, 1059 W. Addison Ave. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 day-of, and include a special goblet and drink specials at each of the bars. 21+

Urban Folk Circuit

The Urban Folk Circuit celebrates its first birthday with a craft show at the Bottom Lounge, 1375 W. Lake St., from noon to 5pm today. Check out hand-crafted stuff from more than 20 artisans; listen to music by Nathaniel Matthew, Half Baked Goods Trio, The Greenleaf Band and Cousin Dud; and maybe enjoy a nice beer at the bar. Fall French Market @ Lycée Francais de Chicago

Lycée Francais, Chicago's most adorable Madeline-esque elementary school is hosting a fall festival of sorts, complete with vendors selling jewelry, accessories, clothing, home decor and more. Don your beret, check out cooking demos by Chicago's finest french chefs and take a break at the French Bistro with nicoise salad, beef bourguignon and un peu de fromage.

All events take place at the Lycée Francais de Chicago, 615 W. Bittersweet Place (entrance on Irving Park Road and Marine Drive). The market runs today from 10am-5pm and Sunday, October 16 from 11am-4pm. Adult admission is $5, with free admission for children.

Chicago Black Authors Network Presents: Urban Arts Expo @ Charles Hayes Center

The Charles Hayes Center, 4859 S. Wabash, presents the Chicago Black Authors Network's (CBAN) first Urban Arts Expo today from 11am-7pm. This free expo, a showcase of Chicago's African-American arts and culture, will feature authors, dancers, artists, poets, workshops and much more. Neutron Bomb Reading Series

The Neutron Bomb is a punk rock reading series which lives up to its name for their fifth installment Saturday October 15th. Readers include Chris Connelly (Former member of Revolting Cocks and Ministry), Sarah Ryczek (local punk rock story teller), Anthony McBrien (Comedian), and Alex Bonner (Windy City Story Slam champ). A punk reading wouldn't be anything without music so local female-fronted hardcore band Calendar Boys plays (and it's their first show, total Punk!). Come out to Cal's Liquors 400 S. Wells, 7pm, Free, 21+, no squares allowed.

Numero Group Fall Yard Sale

Local archivist record company Numero Group is selling used records, books, and other various goods at their HQ at 2348 S. Marshall Blvd. from 9am to 3pm. Other labels will also be representing, including Plustapes and Addenda.
