Dose Market brings together food and fashion at the River East Art Center, 435 E. Illinois St., from 10am to 4pm today. Peruse gourmet food and drink and shop the latest fashions; see a vendor list here. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.
Begin the holiday season at the Julmarknad, a weekend-long food, crafts and entertainment fair at the Swedish American Museum, 5211 N. Clark, 10am-4pm. Caroling, accordion music, folkdancing, and a visit from Santa is scheduled! Nearby stores will have special deals going as well, so you can step out and do some shopping while you're in the mood. The Indo-American Heritage Museum, 6328 N. California, presents the kickoff of Beats of Life: Rhythms of Heritage, today at 2:30pm. In conjunction with the Natya Dance Theatre, this free event, part of a seven-show series, features Indian dance and music with authentic Kathak dance by the Anila Sinha Foundation and a performance by the Bollywood Rhythms Dancers. The Music Box Theatre and Hell In A Handbag Productions present "A Very Carrie Christmas"! A screening of the classic Brian De Palma film Carrie will be enhanced by: a costume contest (think prom dresses and fake blood); a sing-along led by the famous Music Box theater organ; an "Interactive Audience Screening" guide; and an appearance by film star Piper Laurie! The Afro-Latin Record Collector's Fair runs from 2pm to 5:30pm at the Institute of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, 3015 W. Southside Hub of Production (SHOP), 5638 S Woodlawn Ave, is hosting Fenn Fair, a weekend exhibition and art/craft sale of multiples and reproducible objects. It is the kickoff of REPRODUCE+ABILITY. The exhibition will include printmakers, mixtape artists, self-publishers, photocopy artists, object and image-makers, and others. 11am-5pm. Free.
