Facets Night School: I'm Not There

Facets Cinemathequepresents its 10th session of Facets Night School screenings paired with lectures & discussions about the films. Tonight's film is Todd Haynes' 2007 "anti-biopic" of Bob Dylan, I'm Not There. The discussion will be led by film-maker and instructor Michael Smith. Facets Night School runs Saturday evenings through April 21; the lectures begin at midnight with a $5 fee. See the Facets Website for a complete schedule and to purchase tickets in advance. Chicago Bike Swap

The Chicago Bike Swap runs from 10am to 5pm today at the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse, 1419 W. Blackhawk St. Browse bikes and gear from local bike shops and private sellers, and attend bike safety and repair demos and discussions of transportation policy. Admission is $10, or $5 if you're a member of the Active Transportation Alliance. Proceeds benefit the Active Transportation Alliance, Bike Winter and The Chainlink.

Dr. Seuss Day @ Open Books

Open Books, 213 W. Institute Pl., is celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday today with a bunch of kid-oriented activities between noon and 4pm. At 1pm the Emerald City Theatre Company leads drama games, at 2pm the Storybook Mom reads Seuss books, and at 3pm the Wishcraft Workshop helps with Seuss-themed craft projects. Plus coloring, facepainting, readings and cake all day, and all children's books are 20 percent off. Free.

Sam Burckhardt @ Green Mill

Saxophonist Sam Burckhardt celebrates the release of his quartet's latest album, Bobolink, tonight at the Green Mill, 4802 N. Broadway, from 8pm to midnight. $12 cover. 21+

Sun Magazine Reading @ Heartland Cafe

Tonight, Sy Safransky, founder and editor of The Sun magazine, will be reading at The Heartland Cafe in Rogers Park along with authors Poe Ballantine, Krista Bremer and Cheryl Strayed. The Heartland Cafe, 7000 N. Glenwood, 8pm.

Chiditarod

The seventh annual Chiditarod shopping cart race begins today at noon at the corner of Wolcott and Hubbard. Watch teams in crazy costumes pilot their shopping carts around the city. Check the site or Facebook for course details. If you're going to watch, bring along a canned good to give to your favorite team; donations go to the Greater Chicagoland Food Depository.

Fourth Annual Windy City Winter Ball @ Subterranean

The Fourth Annual Windy City Winter Ball will be held tonight at the Subterranean (2011 W. North Avenue), featuring Pet Lions; Brighton, MA; Briar Rabbit; and Ben Keeler and the 500 Club. Formal wear is strongly suggested, with a prize going to the best dressed. The event is 17+. Festivities kick off at 9 p.m.; tickets are $10 (though a limited number of $5 tickets are available).
