Chicago Improv Festival

The Chicago Improv Festival runs April 23-29 at several locations around the city. Tonight's lineup includes multiple shows at the Athenaeum Theater, 2936 N. Southport Ave.; the Chemically Imbalanced, 1420 W. Irving Park Rd.; the Playground Theater, 3209 N. Halsted St.; the Second City Skybox, 1618 N. An Actor Prepares @ Logan Center for the Arts

The University of Chicago presents the new Mickle Maher play An Actor Prepares, which premieres tonight at the university's Theater East at the Logan Center for the Arts (915 E. 60th Street). Taking the classic Stanislavsky text as its inspiration, the play finds the author confronted with a group of characters, all named Stanislavsky. The play premieres tonight at 8pm and runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through May 5. Full details at the U Chicago Website.

Road Food: Exploring the Midwest One Bite at a Time

The Greater Midwest Food Alliance holds a symposium, Road Food: Exploring the Midwest One Bite at a Time, this weekend at Kendall College, from April 27 to April 29. Today's activities run from 3pm to 7pm and include a talk by Terri Ryburn about life along Route 66, an update on the Illinois State Fair Heirloom Recipe Contest, and a discussion of "Food Trucks: Yesterday and Today" with Louisa Chu. A food truck dinner follows. Tickets to the conference are $85 for the weekend, available online

Rock for Kids benefit @ Jack and Ginger's

Jack & Ginger's is hosting a night benefiting Rock For Kids tonight with guest bartenders and a DJ set by Groover Cleveland. Tips from 6-9pm will be donated to Rock For Kids music education programs for underserved youth in Chicago. Enter the evening's raffle to win the chance to have a drink named after you on the Jack & Ginger's menu for the month of May, or a DJ Hero video game. Enter the raffle early, too.
