Dawoud Bey: Harlem, U.S.A. @ Art Institute of Chicago

Tonight, the Art Institute of Chicago, 111 S. Michigan Ave., presents Harlem, U.S.A., the photography exhibit series by Dawoud Bey that debuted at Harlem's Studio Museum in the late 70s. The evening begins at 6pm with a conversation including Bey, author Sharifa Rhodes-Pitts, Matthew Witkovsky, and others; a 7pm tour of the exhibit and reception follows. Bus Rapid Transit Open House

CDOT, the CTA and Ald. Brendan Reilly host an open housetonight from 5pm to 7:30pm at the Chicago Architecture Foundation, 224 S. Michigan Ave. to discuss the Central Loop (East-West) Bus Rapid Transit project. Learn more about the project, view plans and ask questions. Free; RSVP requested.

Wild Boys of the Road @ Portage Theater

Tonight at 7:30pm, the Northwest Chicago Film Society screens William Wellman's Wild Boys of the Road at the Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave. Their classic film series continues every Wednesday. Admission is $5.

Reading Under the Influence's Seventh Anniversary

Wednesday, May 2 marks the seventh anniversary of the reading series Reading Under the Influence. The monthly series has a unique format. It showcases featured writers who read their work along with published work followed by trivia.

To celebrate their anniversary, RUI will feature readings by co-founders Rob Duffer and Julia Borcherts, longtime co-hosts Amy Guth and Jesse Jordan and RUI co-founder emeritus, Carly Huegelmann.

RUI is the first Wednesday of each month in the back room of Sheffield's, 3258 N. Sheffield Ave, 7pm, $3.
