Tonight at 7:30pm, the Northwest Chicago Film Society screens Elia Kazan's Wild River at the Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave. Their classic film series continues every Wednesday. Admission is $5.
Adagio Teas, 617 N. State St., a family-owned artisanal tea store, will host Chicago author Sarah Rose for a reading, discussion and signing of her book "For All the Tea in China" tonight at 6pm. Hors d'oeuvres and tea (natch) will be served at the free event -- no reservations required.
Interested in volunteering for a non-profit? The annual Chicago's Largest Non-Profit Fair, sponsored by Young Professionals of Chicago and Chicago Non-Profit, runs from 5:30pm to 8:30pm tonight in the Holiday Inn in the Merchandise Mart, 350 W. Mart Plaza Dr., 14th floor. Meet more than 90 local non-profits and more than 300 local young professionals while enjoying drinks and passed appetizers. Admission is $10 for YPC members, $15 for non-members, and includes one drink ticket.
Big Science is celebrating the release of their album, Difficulty, tonight at The Burlington (3425 W Fullerton Ave). Boy Blue, Jared Grabb, and Bring Yr Ray Gun open. Doors open at 9 p.m., and admission is a mere $5 donation.
Young Chicago Authors has teamed up with WBEZ for a series of discussions exploring the Chicago aesthetic and how teachers can integrate YCA teaching methods of hip-hop poetic/prose workshops in their classrooms. There will be a series of three talks. The third in this series is tonight at the WBEZ North Side Bureau, 2913 W. Devon at 6pm. Free, but reservations recommended (click here to reserve tickets).
