Victory Gardens Theater and the VG Poets Conservatory present ...and the whole train was like..., a play about seven poets on a Chicago train. Brendan Benson has a knack for writing catchy tunes; the kind that stick in your head for days. His Lapalco record in 2002 was a brilliant and fresh take on singer/songwriter power-pop. He's not let up since then. His latest record is What Kind of World. Brendan Benson headlines Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave. Howling Brothers open at 8pm. Young Hines will also play. Fruit Bats have their roots in Chicago with a former Old Town School of Folk Music instructor at the helm. The Sub Pop band plays delightfully appealing indie-pop with some bite in the lyrics of its sugary tunes. Fruit Bats headline Schubas, 3159 N. Southport Ave. The show is 18+, $15 and starts at 9pm.
