North Coast Music Festival

The North Coast Music Festival runs Friday through Sunday, Aug. 31-Sept. 2, in Union Park at Ashland and Lake. Single-day tickets are $65, three-day passes are $120; there are also tons of aftershows ticketed separately. Gates open at 1pm today. See the schedule for today's lineup. Open Sound Lab @ Experimental Sound Studio

Experimental Sound Studio, 5925 N. Ravenswood Ave., holds its last "open sound lab" of the year today from 1pm to 4pm. Listen to sound-bent instruments and/or demonstrate some of your own. Free.

Chicago Fringe Festival

The third annual Chicago Fringe Festival brings 50 performance groups to Pilsen for shows Aug. 30 through Sept. 9. More than a dozen pieces of experimental theatre are staged tonight in five venues starting at 7pm; see schedule for more details. Tickets for individual performances are $10, or buy a five- or 10-pack or full festival pass.

Jazz Fest

The 34th annual Chicago Jazz Festival continues tonight with performances by Ken Vandermark and Joe McPhee at 5pm in Ganz Hall at Roosevelt University, 430 S. Michigan Ave., and the Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble and the Roy Haynes Fountain of Youth Band at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park starting at 6:30pm. The festival runs through Sunday, Sept. 2. Free.

Touch of Evil @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center kick off a four-month retrospective of 1950s American cinema tonight with a screening of Orson Welles' Touch of Evil. The film screens tonight at 6pm, and again on Tuesday, September 4th at 6pm. The Film Center offers lectures by Chicago Reader film critic Fred Camper with the Tuesday evening screenings in this series. See the Film Center website for full details on the program. Sleepwalk With Me screening with Ira Glass @ Music Box

The Music Box Theatre begins screening the new film Sleepwalk With Me tonight, and they're hosting appearances by the film's co-writer, Ira Glass, tonight and tomorrow. Chicago Teases for the Strip

Chicago Teases for the Strip, a benefit burlesque show for the Burlesque Hall of Fame, stages at the Greenhouse Theater, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. Kiss Kiss Cabaret, Hot and Heavy Burlesque, Gorilla Tango, Michelle L'Amour's Chicago Starlets, Dolls of Doom, Angel Burlesque, Plan 9 Burlesque, Eve's Parlor and independent performers take the stage, culminating with the largest group striptease in Chicago. Tickets are $25 online or at the box office.
