Apple Fest

The 25th annual Apple Fest brings the surrounding community together to celebrate the first day of Autumn. The festival, which is put on by the Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, kicks off at 8am on the 4700 block of N. Lincoln Ave, and continues until 5pm. Enjoy live music, activities for children, an array of vendors, selling clothing, food, drinks, and of course, apples. It's sure to be a bushel of fun!

Lost Recipes Found @ Kendall College

Monica Kass Rogers of LostRecipesFound.com, a website dedicated to the recipes that were once loved but then lost (think signature dishes from now-closed department store cafes or corporate cafeterias, family casserole recipes you only partially remember, or recipes taken from sides of flour boxes), speaks today at Kendall College about the labor of love that is her site. Event begins at 10am at Kendall College, 900 North Branch. Free parking; admission $3.

Windy City Coop Tour

The Chicago Chicken Enthusiasts host their 3rd annual Windy City Coop Tour Sept. 22-23 from 10am-2pm at various locations around the city. Talk with Chicagoland chicken-keepers about their experiences raising chickens in the city. A map of locations and tour guidelines are available on the Windy City Coop Tour website. The event is free and self-guided. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. No dogs or other pets allowed on the tour.

Monster Food Truck Rally @ The Plant

Today, the Plant, a vertical farm operation located in the Back of the Yards (1400 W 46th St), opens its doors to interested folk, with live music, food from several trucks (among them Bridgeport Pasty, Wagyu Wagon and Babycakes), info on sustainable farming, screenings of the documentary "Food Deserts in the Land of Plenty," and of course, the good feeling that comes with supporting an innovative business. Admission $7, event runs 11am-5pm.

Expo Chicago

Expo Chicago, a new exhibition of modern and contemporary art and design, runs Sept. 20-23 in Festival Hall on Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave. View works by hundreds of artists represented by 120 of the world's top galleries. Tickets are $20, or $65 for a four-day pass. The exhibition is open from 11am to 7pm today.

Chicago South Asian Film Festival

The Chicago South Asian Film Festival runs Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 20-23. The festival will screen two dozen films from India and Pakistan -- as well as a couple panel discussions -- at the Showcase Icon Theater, 150 W. Roosevelt Rd., and Columbia College's Film Row Cinema, 1104 S. Wabash Ave. Tickets to most individual screenings are $15, single-day passes are $35 and full festival passes are $125. HOPS! Oktoberfest

The Homebrewer's Pride of the Southside (HOPS!) home brewing club hosts its 15th annual Oktoberfest party today from 2 to 6pm at VFW Post 5079 in Bridgeport, 3202 S. May St. Enjoy brats and a wide variety of beers made by members. Tickets are $30. 21+

Art on Track @ CTA Blue Line

Art on Track, the world's largest mobile art gallery, takes place this evening aboard a 6-car CTA Blue Line running between the Logan Square and UIC-Halsted stations. Each train car features a different Chicago artist or arts group. Passengers are invited to board the gallery train and engage with the artists and artwork. Purchase tickets in advance or at any of the four stops along the AoT train's route: Logan Square, Damen, Clark & Lake and UIC-Halsted. The train (and gallery) runs from 5-10pm. Afterwards check out the after party.

Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements

Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements runs Friday through Sunday, Sept. 21-23, at the Riverfront Theater, 650 W. Chicago Ave. Tonight's lineup leads off with a 5pm performance by El Circo Cheapo, followed by Van Dyke Parks at 7pm and Conor Oberst at 8pm. A late-night comedy show wraps things up at 10pm with standup by Jon Benjamin, Drew Michael, Megan Gailey and Brian Babylon. Tickets for El Circo Cheapo are $10; it's $30 for the rest.

May We Shed These Human Bodies Book Release

Chicago press Curbside Splendor is releasing a new book May We Shed These Human Bodies by Washington DC-based author Amber Sparks with a party and reading at Cole's Bar in Logan Square, 2338 N. Milwaukee, at 7pm. Readers joining Sparks will include Chris Bower, Franki Elliot (Piano Rats) , Lindsay Hunter (Daddy's), James Tadd Adcox, Jac Jemc (My Only Wife), Tim Jones-Yelvington, Ben Tanzer (Lucky Man), Heather Marie Vernon and Daniella Olszewska. Promethean Theatre Ensemble Benefit

The Promethean Theatre Ensemble celebrates seven years with a benefit gala tonight at Las Manos Gallery, 5220 N. Clark St., from 7 to 10pm. Enjoy live entertainment and refreshments and bid on items in a silent auction. Tickets are $40.

Bloodshot Records' 18th Birthday @ Mayne Stage

Chicago's own Bloodshot Records is turning 18 years old, and to celebrate, they're teaming up with 93XRT and Lagunitas Brewing to ring in their birthday. Join them for a night of live music and beer tastings for just $12 (advance tickets only). The music kicks off at 7pm with performances from Lydia Loveless, Jon Langford & Skull Orchard, Dex Romweber Duo, Deadstring Brothers, Shake'em On Down (featuring Rick Sherry and Joel Paterson). ReBuilding Rockabilly Riot

The ReBuilding Exchange, 2160 N Ashland Ave., hosts Rockabilly Riot, a concert fundraiser and party, tonight at 7pm. DJ Coffin Banger will spin and Pillow Talk will perform live for a rockabilly sock hop. There will be complimentary craft beer from Half Acre Beer and Three Floyds and food for sale from Enoch's Doughnuts, Pleasant House Bakery, Co-Op Sauce and more. Tickets are $25.

Chicago I Love You @ Lilly's

The Chicago, I Love You festival continues at Lilly's, 2515 N. Lincoln Ave., with a concert featuring Ari Levi, Rego, For All The Sweet Children, When Clouds Attack and Moxie Motive. Show starts at 8:30pm. Free, 21+.

Roster McCabe @ Abbey Pub
