The Chicago Chicken Enthusiasts host their 3rd annual Windy City Coop Tour Sept. 22-23 from 10am-2pm at various locations around the city. Talk with Chicagoland chicken-keepers about their experiences raising chickens in the city. A map of locations and tour guidelines are available on the Windy City Coop Tour website. The event is free and self-guided. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. No dogs or other pets allowed on the tour.
The Chicago South Asian Film Festival runs Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 20-23. The festival will screen two dozen films from India and Pakistan -- as well as a couple panel discussions -- at the Showcase Icon Theater, 150 W. Roosevelt Rd., and Columbia College's Film Row Cinema, 1104 S. Wabash Ave. Tickets to most individual screenings are $15, single-day passes are $35 and full festival passes are $125. Fork and the Road food tours by bike embarks on its Oven Lovin' tour, today, a vegetarian-friendly exploration of backed goods. The 16-mile tour pushes off from the Kitchen Sink Cafe, 1107 W. Berwyn Ave., at 11am, and ends back there at 4pm. Tickets are $50.
Expo Chicago, a new exhibition of modern and contemporary art and design, runs Sept. 20-23 in Festival Hall on Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave. View works by hundreds of artists represented by 120 of the world's top galleries. Tickets are $20, or $65 for a four-day pass. The exhibition is open from noon to 6pm today.
Beer may have kicked off the tradition of Chicago beer crawls, but Andersonville likes to do it sweet style. The seventh annual Andersonville Dessert Crawl today from 2pm to 5pm features over two dozen restaurants and three delectable routes to feed your sweet tooth (the ice cream, cupcake or lollipop route). Participants can pick up their Dessert Crawl "passport" at pH Productions, 1515 W. Berwyn Ave., and then proceed to the participating restaurants and stores for tasting-sized portions at each location. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 on the day of the event. Longman & Eagle, 2657 N. Kedzie Ave., is joining forces with Old Style and Windy City Soul Club to throw its second What's Happening!! The menu includes corn pudding, wild boar sloppy joes and venison sausage with sauerkraut, and a pig plate with lots of barbecue fixings. This free, outdoor event is from 4 to 10pm today on Schubert and Kedzie avenues, adjacent to the restaurant.
Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements runs Friday through Sunday, Sept. 21-23, at the Riverfront Theater, 650 W. Chicago Ave. Tonight concludes the festival with performances by Helado Negro at 7pm and Bobby Womack at 8pm. Tickets are $30.
Jokes and Notes, 4641 S. King Dr., presents the "4th Annual Funniest Female Competition" tonight at 8pm. Hosted by Kellye Howard, the competition features the stand-up comedy of local comediennes including Claire Swanson, Megan Gailey, Patti Vasquez and more.
