Logan Launch Festival

The Logan Launch Festival, celebrating the opening of UofC's Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, runs Oct. 12-14 at the center, 915 East 60th St. Programming includes musical performances, art exhibits, workshops and lectures; see the event website for a full schedule. The festival runs from noon to 11pm today. Free.

Lecture in Early Modern History @ Newberry

Today at 2pm at the Newberry Library, 60 W. Walton St., historian Lee Palmer Wandel presents the lecture "Telling the Story: The Encounter and the Reformation," bringing together the histories of the Columbian Exchange and the Reformation. A reception will follow the lecture. Free, but registration required.

SMALL is Ordinary Shop opening @ Chicago Cultural Center

The Small Manufacturing Alliance hosts the free "SMALL is Ordinary Shop" opening today from 5:30-7:30pm at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E Washington). The shop showcases locally-made goods such as organic soaps and furniture, as well as food and drink tastings from local vendors.

Chicago Battle of the Jug Bands @ Logan Square Auditorium

The 5th annual Chicago Battle of the Jug Bands at Logan Square Auditorium, 2539 N. Kedzie Ave., features nine bands that will each have 15 minutes to win the audience members over. Reigning champs Strictly Jug Nuts will open, followed by the battle between Deep Fried Pickle Project, The Hump Night Thumpers, The Jubilee Jug Band, Mr. Mayor and the Highballers, Otisco, The Schticklers, The Wampler Jug Stompers, and Whiskey Bob Taylor & The Twelve Steps. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm. Tickets are $9 at the door, all proceeds will go to the Old Town School of Folk Music. 21+

Generat.io/ns @ The Post Family

The Post Family opens Generat.io/ns, an art exhibition speculating on how today's technology might impact tomorrow, at the Family Room, 1821 W. Hubbard St., Ste. 202, from 7 to 10pm tonight. A few more details on Facebook. Free.

Nosferatu @ Music Box

The Music Box Theatre presents the latest in its silent film series with a screening of the 1922 classic Nosferatu. The Soft Pack @ Lincoln Hall

The Soft Pack has evolved from a raw Modern Lovers-like jangle to a tight surf-rockish sound over the last few years. They're on tour in support of their second album, Strapped. Facets Night School: The Sleeper

Tonight Facets Cinematheque continues Facets Night School, their series of cult film screenings paired with lectures and discussions, with a midnight screening of the 1980s slasher film tribute The Sleepr. Tonight's screening will be accompanied by a lecture and discussion by FilmMonthly.com writer Jason Coffman. Facets Night School runs Saturday nights at midnight through October 27.
