From Chicago to Lahore: A Cultural Nexus

Chicago Sister Cities International presents "From Chicago to Lahore: A Cultural Nexus," a showcase of arts and culture from Lahore, Pakistan, in the G.A.R. Hall and Rotunda and the Claudia Cassidy Theater at the Chicago Cultural Center, 77 E. Randolph St., tonight from 6 to 9pm. Free.

46th Ward budget meeting

Want to have a say in how 46th Ward Ald. James Cappleman spends $1 million in "menu money" for infrastructure projects in the ward? Here's your chance.

Cappleman is hosting the second of five ward meetings where residents can learn about and be a part of the participatory budgeting process.

"Through the city of Chicago's menu fund program, each ward receives over $1 million dollars for capital budget projects, with the vast majority of these funds used for street and alley repaving and additional lighting," Cappleman said in a letter to constituents.

The meeting runs from 7-9 p.m. at Thorek Hospital, 850 W. Irving Park Rd.

Guts & Glory @ Powell's Bookstore

Samantha Irby of Bitches Gotta Eat and Keith Ecker, the producer of Essay Fiesta have teamed up to create Guts & Glory: Live Lit for the Lionhearted. The duo's second show will take place on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at Powell's Bookstore (2850 N. Lincoln Ave.) Featured readers include: The Encyclopedia Show's Robbie Q. Telfer; Here's the Story producer Janna Sobel; Author and Quickies! producer Linsday Hunter; Vocalo host and producer Luis Antonio Perez; and Writer and teacher Rachel Collins. Show is free, with donations collected and split evenly between One Tail at a Time and 826CHI. Future shows will take place on the third Wednesday of every month.

Story Lab @ Black Rock

Story Lab stands apart from other series in the city in its accessibility and unmitigated audience support for the performers. Join storytellers and story lovers at the Black Rock Pub, 3614 N. Damen Ave., where each month, an entirely different lineup of up-and-coming storytellers share their freshest pieces. This month's readers include: Johnnie Grozenski, Kelin Hall, Rebecca Marquardt, Jenny Melnick, and Valentine Soposky. Hosted by Scott Whitehair of the reading series This Much is True. Badlands @ Comfort Station

The Logan Square International Film Series screens Malick's Badlands outside the Logan Square Comfort Station, 2579 N. Milwaukee Ave., at 8pm tonight. Free; donations accepted.

He's My Brother, She's My Sister @ Subterranean

He's My Brother, She's My Sister are on tour to support their new album Nobody Dances in this Town. The L.A.-based band blends folk, blues, rock and kitchen sinks (not literally) into their music and has a fun live show, too. They'll headline Subterranean. Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles and Poor Elvis open. The show's 17+, starts at 8PM and is $12 at the door. Subterranean's at 2210 W North.
