It doesn't get much better than cheese, and it doesn't get much cheaper than free. Drop by Lux Bar, 18 E. Bellevue Place, tonight at 7 p.m. for a free local and artisanal cheese tasting sponsored by Great American Cheese Collection. Rub elbows with heralded cheesemakers like Jon Loomis from Zingerman's Creamery and Fons Smits from Ludwig Farmstead Creamery, sip on some discounted drinks, and nibble on cheese-centric apps. The event's free, but reservations are required.
WildClaw Theatre presents Deathscribe 2012, the winners of their annual horror radio play contest. The show starts tonight at Mayne Stage (1328 West Morse) at 8pm. Tickets available through the Mayne Stage Website.
Quietly emerging -- nay, laugh out loudly emerging as one of the best stand-up showcases in Chicago, 100 Proof Comedy is raising funds by providing knee-slappers for homeless kids in need with the charity-outreach organization StandUp For Kids; tonight, 8pm at Comedy Sportz, 929 Belmont Ave., admission is $10, but if you are feeling extra generous you can buy raffle tickets where 100% of the proceeds benefits StandUp for Kids.
