"Pastrami on Rye" @ Kendall College

Ted Merwin, associate professor of religion and Judaic studies at Dickinson College, presents "Pastrami on Rye: An Overstuffed History of the Jewish Deli," a lecture on the role and importance of delicatessens in Judaic culture, today at 10am at Kendall College, 900 N. North Branch St. Admission is $3.

Chicago Art Girls Pop-up Shop

The Chicago Art Girls Pop-up Shop is open today and Sunday from 11am to 5pm in Helium, 4710 N. Ravenswood Ave. Shop among more than two dozen female artists and crafters. Admission is free.

FischMas Beer Tasting @ Fischman Liquors

Fischman Liquors & Tavern, 4780 N. Milwaukee Ave., hosts its annual FischMas Christmas Beer Tasting today from 2pm to 7pm. Tonight at 7pm, the Book Cellar (4736 N. Lincoln Ave.) welcomes author Lincoln Schatz, presenting The Network, a collection of portraits of today's influential figures from the world of entrepreneurs, industrialists, scientists, politicians and more.

Alliance Winter Dance Bash

The Alliance Dance Company holds its annual Winter Dance Bash tonight and Sunday at Ruth Page Theater, 1016 N. Dearborn St. The evening features performances by the Alliance Dance Company, Innervation Dance Cooperative, M.A.D.D. Rhythms, Extensions Dance Company and NorthSide Dance Theater. Tickets are $16 for adults, $8 for children with the discount code SNOWFUN, or $20/$10 at the door. Tonight's performance begins at 7:30pm.

Chicago Afrobeat Project @ Double Door

Outer Minds celebrate the release of their latest record Behind the Mirror at Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western. They will be joined by local garage-rock peers Bare Mutants and Radar Eyes, with Blizzard Babies opening.
