The Northwest Chicago Film Society screens the 1955 classic Night of the Hunter tonight at the Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave., at 7:30pm. Tickets are $5.

Damen Ave., where each month, an entirely different lineup of up-and-coming storytellers share their freshest pieces. This month's readers include: Sarah Goldenberg; Karen O'Donnell; Note Sangern; Paul Teodo; Ray Teresi; and Shawn Wilson Hosted by Scott Whitehair of the reading series This Much is True. Chicago Slam Works presents the final "Dead or Alive" performance at The Raven Theatre (6157 N. Clark), featuring actors portraying deceased poets such as Gwendolyn Brooks (Paulette McDaniels), Langston Hughes (Shannon Matesky), Etheridge Knight (Jared Grant), Jonathan Swift (Robbie Q. Telfer), and Anne Sexton (Rebecca Levine). The actors will perform the poems in a mock slam against Chicago poets Sage Morgan Hubbard, Raych Jackson, Kevin Kern, Sharrieff Muhammad, Emily Rose and Fatimah Asghar.
